Interestingly, the 14" pistol barrel yields the same velocity as a 16" M4 rifle due to the latter's losses to the gas port.
Pretty close, though the M4's flash suppressor is helpful for holding down that muzzle blast during nighttime firing.
I've found similar results with a 14-inch barrelled TC Contender in 6.8 SPC and an M4 with a Barrett M468 upper assembly. But I'm not at all yet certain that the M4 configuration is the way to go with the 6.8 cartridge.
How familiar are you with the M4? Have you ever used it?
It stands to reason there would be a little loss but I read a test maybe 30 years ago with a rifle in which the gas port could be closed off and there was so little difference that it was basically not measureable.
Hrm. Glad I'm only loud at diners at 4 in the morning in Jersey.
