Was Jane Fonda a traitor? She was pro-North Vietnam. Pro-communist. Visited the enemy territory, and posed on an anti-aircraft gun mount.
Fonda went way beyond protest.
"Was Jane Fonda a traitor?"
Yes, and she should have been put up against a wall.
The only reason, and I do mean ONLY reason, that Jane Fonda escaped any official sanctions for treason, which she did commit (and has never renounced, making her treachery even more grievous, in my view), is that she was and is a highprofile media character.
She had and has the "power" (such as it is, like a giant sucking sound) of the media and entertainment industry in her favor AND (second reason) she has great wealth.
Without one or the other, she'd have been prevented (I really believe that) from remaining or even returning to the U.S. after her Vietnam escapades.
Jane Fonda, her ex, and others of their similar opinions and behaviors are people who bypass social and legal consequences because of wealth, unfortunately, by buying (literally) a skewered media presence in their favor, to ease their images/wrong actions, as to public perceptions.
In Fonda's case, the public perceptions are still very negative about her (and should be) but she's able to sway political opinion, I am SURE, based upon her position as a wealthy influence, politically and socially.
It's a shame because she is a traitor in the truest sense of the definition, and remains committed to her views and actions, having never renounced any of them past or presents. Her only comments about her past were that she regretted anyone feeling badly about her, to that effect. She regrets that other people perceived her badly, wrongly, not that she regrets any of her own behaviors and positions, statements, actions.
Truly a despicable person.
And, in places like Santa Monica, CA, Jane Fonda is still "cool," as is also Tom Hayden.
Shows you the depths that some people go to to grovel for trends.
