Nonsense this will not be killed. Specter may not survive the end of the hearings but will want to go out on a high note. Besides there are OTHER Senators as well. This is going to be huge.

I agree, this is going to be huge, but I think it will be huge in spite of Arlen, not because of him. If anything, he will make his best efforts to hide the truth...he will be doing what he has done for years, and that is act as a shill for others and to keep the truth from the public.

If he was serious, he would have subpoenaed the information right away. By not doing that, he will start a long give and take with by making repeated requests so he can act the tough guy...but in the end, he will drag out the process of getting to the truth in an effort to wait out the public...

I think this is a chance to revert to the good work he did getting Thomas confirmed and he will take it. There will be plenty of FBI incentive to get to the bottom of this and no one there now is going to risk their ass for whatever mopes blew it ten years ago. The Director will make sure of it.

And this needs to be dragged out for the next year. Specter was put on notice in getting his chair.

Yeah, but will they postpone the Roberts gearing as a result or put Able Danger on ice while they deal with Roberts' confirmation?

My life would be much happier if I had your optimism...I hope you are right and I am wrong, but I remain unconvinced.

Anyway, I am not so certain he did all that much good work in the past, except on issues that were going to win anyway...but when the chips were down and serious investigations of serious matters were needed, he has consistently been found wanting. I'd never hire him as my lawyer if he were in private practice, even though I'm Scottish.

I think you are right on this. I believe that both Sen's Cornyn and Coleman will be or has been his "minder" on the commitee. Just my opinion...

How strong can an investigation of this magnitude be if the committee chair has to have "minders?" The energy will be divided between internecine bickering, rather than having a unified front to address the inevitable stonewalling that will be coming. I do not agree that those in power now and in the know are motivated to bring this to light...they still have skeletons, and they are not going to let that happen.

its bigger than arlen and the rest. weldon may have hard copy backups. the shot across the pentagons bow was heard by everyone. the fbi thing is a head fake to slow down the flood of information and speculation. it will not matter the dam is leaking badly . maybe no one big will go down if this blows up, but look what we will have learned. they old boys will matter less and less. information is the key to a secure future and we all know it. these hacks are old news. think of how sites like this one have driven this story. all the info and now the first of many hearings. and all of this without the help of the the so called big media. which is understandable after all it takes a lot of time to focus on sheehan , aruba, body counts , gas prices and the roberts adoptions.

"A nice Letter...but how about a nice Subpoena!"

You want Congress subpoenaing the executive branch?

Think the other direction work as well?

There seems to have been a problem downloading this page.

These two lines are garbled, it appears. At least the first one is wrong.

Sincerely,

Arlen Specter

It should be,

Wink-wink, nudge-nudge

Arlen Specter

Specter should about be wrapping up those OKC hearings he promised Jayna Davis on radio, publically, in writing also, out loud in his own voice, in his own handwriting, on his own stationary, in front of TV news cameras. . . .

O'Reilly has already let the 9-11 commission off the hook, including gorelicker. Why? How does he know anything?

"seems to me our friend Arlen is a little too interested in how we COLLECT the information and not on why it wasn't SHARED."

To the contrary it appears that, like a good prosecutor would do, Arlene is trying to establish that it wasn't shared. If the FBI produces records that Shaffer or anyone else connected to Able Danger tried to create a dialog with the FBI then the next step is to show why the dialog didn't take place.

Could turn out to be a I called, did not argument in which case another venue would have to be pursued, but Arlene's letter will put people on record one way or the other.

"Why is Specter's committee, Judiciary, conducting this investigation? "

Duh, because the sharing or not sharing of information is a matter of LAW?

Arlen Specter has been a useful idiot for Washington elites for decades.
It started out with his one bullet theory to prop up the warren commission report that a lone gunman shot kennedy.

Then his defense of his acquittal vote against clinton using his now famous scottish law defense.

Washington elites know where to go when they need a real whitewash cover-up, unlike the rank amateurs on the 911 commission

Dear Director Mueller,

I believe I met Able Danger and his family while I was in Scotland. Could you confirm his Scottish heritage?

Thank you for your attention to this important question about cross agency information sharing.

Sincerely,

Arlen Specter

apparently you have not been paying attention for the last 30 or so years if you believe our friend Arlen is going to expose government ineptness, or any fellow lawyer as a traitor.

Apparently you haven't kept up with Arlene's collaboration with Weldon to get the story out?

He did a good job on suppressing growing discontent with the suicide explanation of Vince Foster's death as well.
