And what about oysters at Acme Oyster Bar, Po' Boy sandwiches at Johnny's, shrimp at Ugelisch's, and a nice Pimm's Cup at Napoleon House?

The smell of old wood at M.S.Rau and the sound of the cathedral clock in Jackson Square.

I feel like crying. The memories, the memories...

Well, you know one thing, the Cafe du Monde will not close their doors. They don't have any.

I start my morning with Cafe du Monde coffee EVERY day.

I rode out Hurricane David in 1979 off of Charleston as well as going through many hurricanes in eastern NC while growing up. Prayers for everyone in the path of this one. This is going to be one for the books.

The light. No place has light quite like New Orleans.

Memories. The Rault Center fire. They brought the bodies of the jumpers down through my mom's office building. The World's fair, and a wonderful day in City park having a crawfish boil while watching the fireworks for the fair in the distance. The Zephyr. Standing on Canal Street on Mardi Gras Day wearing a boy clown costume, my mom dressed likewise, my dad and brother dressed like girl clowns - long before such a thing would be a political statement. It was just fun.

Walking through Jackson square before they outlawed glass bottles and closed the park during Mardi gras, and stepping through ankle deep wine and beer bottles.

The taste of fresh shrimp. Reading Confederacy of Dunces and the Movie Goer and knowing all the places. Missing DH Holmes on Canal Street. The Pitt theater, and the first time I saw It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World with my dad, and the first time I saw Plan Nine from Outer Space with my college friends. The Popcorn tasted the same...both times.

Sigh.
