We are looking at a situation that has the potential to be the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States. With a potential death toll that could make 9/11 look like a picnic. Not to mention the economic impact.

This is an historic, terrible event.

I wish some of you folks would consider this before posting countless idiotic green bean, red beans, etc. posts. It's not entertaining.

I highly doubt that would see something like that. Galveston hurricane of 1900 would be more appropriate over 9/11, though.

Doesn't bother me at all. It's a nice momentary diversion from the apocalyptic nightmare still coming to NO. We need to give ourselves a "breather" to avoid burnout.

We are not entertaining you but making ourselves ready for what is to come.

We really cannot just sit here waiting for a post about the vortex and being silent just pposting only important posts.

And wringing our hands is just not in us.

Please don't snap at us, most of us are frightened, have people we love in this storm's path and are truly upset.

I'm all for keeping this a hurricane thread...but, like a poster mentioned, LIVE threads that are dealing with high stress levels tend to end up with recipe talk...

Therefore, to me, it is comforting to see the recipe talk...it would make me MORE nervous if it weren't here..

JMHO, of course.

Those of us who have been doing these storm threads for a number of years have gotten into habits - and we all know old habits die hard.

We are all very tired and stressed at this point. Honestly, my dedication to these threads is to provide support to the FReepers who may be in harm's path. That is #1, #2, and #3 on the list of priorities.

Speaking with way too much hurricane experience...once the rush to finish hurricane preparation is complete, there is little else to do but wait, FReep, and watch the radar blip around hour after hour until the electricity goes out. Talking about red beans and rice and Hershey's kisses are, frankly, necessary.
