Hurricane Katrina: Anderson Cooper, Shep Smith, Brian Williams & Harrigan Battle for 'Rather Prize'

'Poor Dan Rather,' writes Jonah Goldberg at National Review Magazine. 'This is really his kind of story.'

Tim Graham says CNN's Anderson Cooper 'has his eyes on the Dan Rather prize.' The network had lots of anchors out in the storm, but Cooper seems to be closest to the anchor wrapped around a pole look.

Steve Harrigan dominated FNC's excellent coverage of Katrina. He stood at a 90 degree angle to the camera, buffeted by the Gulfport, Mississippi winds. 'Harrigan is doing an amazing job of riding this thing out. He's staring down the hurricane without hyping anything up,' an emailer writes.

Brian Williams was wise to position himself at the Louisiana Superdome. His cell phone reports became increasingly important as the situation began to deteriorate at 9AM.

FNC star Shep Smith was the first anchor on air from the French Quarter. His coverage, via phone, from downtown continues to be compelling.

I've really enjoyed seeing Steve Harrigan out there. He's a great reporter who's providing some very professional coverage.

Too bad CBS didn't go ahead and send Rather. Now we will never know whether Rather was a bigger blowhard than Katrina.

I liked it when Fox and Friends told Hannigan to get inside.

I saw Bill too. This morning he was being welcomed to the network by the Fox & Friends gang. I thought I was watching the wrong station!

I turned the radio off immediately. Just put the radio back on and he's talking about how he doesn't hear anything but the very beginning of Rush's show because he's busy doing prep!

LOL......Sean's show is often a verbatim repeat of Rush's show! Every topic, nearly every day.

I thought Hemmer was one of the few decent anchors on CNN.

Their loss. That lamebrain gal, Soledad, in the morning is just soo dim!

Who is the man who will spend or will even lend?
Harrigan, That's Me!
Who is your friend when you find that you need a friend?
Harrigan, That's Me!
For I'm just as proud of my name you see,
As an Emperor, Czar or a King, could be.
Who is the man helps a man every time he can?
Harrigan, That's Me!

H - A - double R - I - G - A - N spells Harrigan
Proud of all the Irish blood that's in me; Divil a man can say a word agin me.
H - A - double R - I - G - A - N, you see,
Is a name that a shame never has been connected with, Harrigan, That's me!

Who is the man never stood for a gad about?
Harrigan, That's Me!
Who is the man that the town's simply mad about?
Harrigan, That's Me!
The ladies and babies are fond of me,
I'm fond of them, too, in return, you see.
Who is the gent that's deserving a monument?
Harrigan, That's Me!

H - A - double R - I - G - A - N spells Harrigan
Proud of all the Irish blood that's in me; Divil a man can say a word agin me.
H - A - double R - I - G - A - N, you see,
Is a name that a shame never has been connected with, Harrigan, That's me!

Always good for a laugh, remember Whorealdo is his Mario Bros. outfit. Steve Harrigan was good this morning. A decent honest reporter w/no hype, unlike "Jerry Rivers"

Gay boy Cooper just wanted to get down to Bourbon Street and covort with the transvestite strippers.

Shep Smith has been begging for water for the people who are stuck on the I 10 interchange.

Some of them have been there for 2 days. One baby may have died up there in the heat without any water. They are finally bringing in a little water.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I don't know why they can't use the helicopters to drop drinking water for these people.

He even gave them the exit number.

He also talked directly via his hookup to some babe who is officially involved in the refugee situation and asked her point blank when somebody was going to come over there and tell those poor people where to walk so they could get out of that intense heat and get some shelter, water, food, med. treatment and evacuation out of N.O.

The babe really did not answer his question except to mumble some claim that they HAD been told what to do, although Shep said "no way, not there at his exit location". The last I saw, the FNC crew was sharing some ice they had with a family who used it to cool off their 3 yr. old son who was feeling ill and faint. All of which was shown on the air.

Unbelievable.

Why cannot someone direct some aid to these specific individuals, before they begin to get beyond help right in front of our eyes? They are just a stone's throw from the super dome but cannot get there, as far as anyone seems to know, from their location. Like they are cut off by water and Lord knows what else.

Surely some have tried to make it from there to somewhere they can get help, but nothing seems to work for them, and convoys come past them on the freeway and drive right on by.

Maybe the PRESIDENT should order SOMEBODY to help them!
