I turned on CNN earlier and Blitzer was breathless in his introduction of an Superdome/Astrodome refugee. The reporter started interviewing a black guy named Lorell. They set up the piece as an interview showing the anger and despair of those that were at the Superdome.
Ol' Lorell had a big smile on his face. He thanked God, President Bush and the mayor for getting him and his family out together and safe. The CNN reporter was stunned. Stike one for CNN. It was not going as planned so he asked the man to describe his trip ( "how violent was it???). Lorell praised the driver and said the ride was quite comfortable. He said if you waited in line and went through the correct procedures all was fine. It was those that tried to cheat the procedures that were having the problems. Strike two for CNN.
CNN reporter than asked Lorell how he will survive in the Astrodome for three or four months. What kind of misery and destitution were waiting for him. Lorell says with a big smile that he contacted family who were sending him money to go to South Carolina. He thanked God again again was on his way. Strike three CNN.
I tell you, I wish more people interviewed were like Lorell, my new hero.

Wow ... thanks for posting that wonderful interview, Nan. It put a big ole smile on my face.
Lady ... thank you for all of your spiritual posts. It is important that we remember to pray for our fellow citizens. Also remember those in the military who are so worried about family and friends back home.
Dolly, beautiful but heartbreaking thread! Amen, Mama_Bear. What those poor people are going through makes the soul weep. Heard from Mr. Scubachick today and he will probably be home late September, however he has already volunteered to go help with clean-up, relief efforts, etc. for victims of Katrina when he gets home.
Paula Zahn at 8 was trying to 'steer' Mary Landrieu (not our favorite person), who was actually saying with sincerity how good it was of Senators Frist and Reid and House Leader Hastert to work together to get Congress back early to deal with things.
Pissed offaula chided her very sternly to the effect
"Don't you realize we out here don't want to listen to you pat one another on the back?"
[with all these tragedies going on implied]
To her credit, Senator Landrieu shot back effectively she had lived in NO all her life - her father had been the Mayor - and she is totally dedicated to helping her city and the region.
Acknowledged that every effort was being made to do things quickly, despite the vagaries of nature, the many unforseen setbacks and wrinkles, etc., - that the government was not perfect, but trying hard.
Kinda cooled P's jets..:))
[Mary = 1 Paula = -1]
Heard from deadhead, saying she can access FR but can't get The Finest to load...told her we miss her!
Thank you, Maggie. Some sigs just beg to be made. But they all have to have that lightbulb!! go off before I can get started.
I'm so sorry, Colleen, that you can't load this thread - it is such a heartwarming thread with the most beautiful prayers and heart-tugging photos. :(
Loved both your *News* stories! Awwwwwwww, don't you know they just hate it when an interview goes south and the interviewee says all the wrong (nice) things! LOL!
Question:
"How many Finest Freepers does it take to make
the lightbulbs turn on in Billie's head?"..:))
(just kidding..)
LOL! I don't know - how many sigs have I made over the years?
You haven't seen Meg's either, have you? :) Meg? Post yours?
Good night hugs, dutchess - - God be with you and yours.
Yes, I have been very busy the past few days. Many new arrivals.
But...I'm so mad! A CAT came into the yard Sunday; got cat food Monday, got into lonestar's lap yesterday, and got a bed today. It's a young Siamese cat.
Now I really hate cats--and especially that cat!
At least it doesn't have a name yet.
Weinie
Wow lonestar....bet you have lots of new arrivals too...looking for loved ones. Keep up the great work over there!
Also showed an update on the radio station drive at a Wal-Mart, with lots of children bringing in their piggy banks - older persons emptying their pockets, and even coming back with more.
Then the Wal-Mart Manager was on camera saying with the hiring season just about here, he would encourage evacuees to put in applications for work in his store!
Said if they work out, he'd keep them on....
In addition, several vans with donations from churches are ready to head for Mississippi.
America's big heart is beating strongly...
Be assured, Amy, the military and their families and loved ones are *always* on my heart and in my prayers...it was I who suggested to Billie we needed a 'Prompt to Pray' Reminder Box for them, and she created one, and it's used on every Finest thread..:))
The names added have grown wonderfully;
right there where we can lift them up by relationship to Freepers.
You write the cutest posts, 'weinie' - now, be happy for lonestar she has someone to sit in her lap again. Maybe even better it's a cat - you know a cat will NEVER make her forget weinie. :)
