I just don't understand why food and water cannot be airlifted to these poor poor desperate people.

I cannot fathom it myself. I watch Fox News and see all those people on the interstate near the Superdome and they've been there for 2 days with no food, no water, NOTHING. And then, in the reports, you can see the dead bodies on the streets. People who have died from either heat or heart attacks or starved or dehydrated. It's heartbreaking.

Another note about blame. How's this for everyone? DU thinks that the whole "search and rescue being suspended" was planned out ahead of time as an experiment. That the delay in food and water and the chaos, lack of aid, etc..is to see what would happen. Some there think that the Bush Administration and FEMA are "creating" the looting stories on purpose.
