This crossed my mind last night, only time will tell.
Right about fires in the rain. My grandfather was a fireman. Fought many fires in thunderstorms. Was the worst.
Insurance companies are like lawyers, everybody hates them until they need them.
Very few policies cover flood damage. Or civil insurrection. RTFP (read the fine print)
There was a sad but true joke circulating in Afghanistan early on that the American were "killing the locals with food"
From what I was told, the airdrops of food and water were hitting and injuring people. The locals would run when the planes would try to drop supplies.
The Air Force changed the way the food/water was being dropped and that saved people but led to warlords stealing the food.
I'm sure some of the NOLA gang bangers/thugs think of themselves the same way, as warlords looking expand their influence. This is going to get much worse before it gets better.
(I interviewed an Air Force Ground Combat Controller after his return from there in 12/01. He was receiving the Bronze Star and he had lots of these types of cool stories to tell that I could not get the Air Force to publish.)
Actually - fires burning NOW> Live coverage on FoxNews continuing now.
There still is the wind damage, how are they doing to distinguish between wind damage and flood damage in many areas?
Did you hear about the truck that was delivering medical supplies to a children's hospital that was held up by thugs? It is disgusting.
No different, unfortunately, than what I've seen some people post here.
Hey come on guys!
It has taken me years to not hear about that ..ha.
and then the mayor's hair caught on fire once!
I'm sure the fire departments have been washed away so this thing is going to burn and burn and burn.
Smart people hate them even then.
You are absolutely correct. That is the very reason.
The early report said one small firetruck was on its way. Those poor firemen, they will have no effect in essence. And they are probably already so exhausted.
Any photos for the officebound? (Or those who don't have cable?)
I agree. If there are directions to give, why doesn't Shep Smith give them? I'd get the press to arrange a dump of bottled water 1-2 miles up the road, find out which way and how far these people need to walk... then call 10 people up to me, deputize them, fill them in on the details, give them pennants or flags on poles and flashlights or light sticks so that peopple can follow them, and send those new leaders out to collect 10-20 people each and lead them. Then do it again. And again.
But hey, that's just me.
And I suppose last December's tsunami was Allah's punishment on Moslem Indonesia ...
Gas mains all over the city have been destroyed..with gas leaking..it provides ready fuel.
