We're not a Christian nation, and historically we have not acted like it.

From the rabid responses I've seen on FR, she might be right.

Well, I have to confess that I myself got a bit too riled up over the looting which, after all, has been carried out by small minority of the people who are left behind in New Orleans. If the US can't prevent people from dehydrating after a natural disaster, heads need to roll.

Fact is, we got military help into the tsunami area within 48 hours, and $100,000,000 of MY money (and yours) on the spot in days.

Someone on another thread stated 5-7 days for relief in the tsunami disaster..can you verify the time??...but you have to admit...the prevailing attitude of the people in NO is "hep me...hep me"...I have seen interviews and reports of people whom did prepare and have water and food...and guns...and they can wait a week or so for help to arrive...

I agree, the elite liberals whine and cry about problems, but, then, they expect YOU to pay for it, and expect YOU to lift a hand to help while they sit in their comfortable homes and limos.

"evacuees complained that they were dropped off and given nothing."

They're alive aren't they? Who was supposed to give them something? This is becoming surreal.

I've heard people on campus grumbling about n****gers (yes, on a college campus) and "kill the bastards." It's sort of disconcerting, but expected.

Most of the people in NO right now are welfare parasites, it's true, but they don't deserve to...dare I say it?...die like dogs in the streets.

Amen brother. I see them crawling out of the woodwork here on FR since yesterday.

Politics is first and foremost for them. Nothing else matters.

Peace

One of the basic problems in a liberal city is that it will eventually decline to the point where utter incompetence is the norm among elected officials. That's exactly what happened in New York under David Dinkins from 1989-93. When even a Marxist city like New York elected a no-nonsense Republican to succeed Dinkins, you knew things were about to change for the better.

The same thing might have happened earlier in New Orleans, but there simply hasn't been enough of a monied class to make that prudent decision. Maybe it will happen now. If this mayor and governor were facing re-election in November, they'd probably lose to an Independent ticket of Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein.

Yep, our entire military scared off by one gunshot. Nice picture, that.

The scene at the Convention and Superdome are intollerable.. WHERE ARE THE WATER BUFFALOS! People in power told them to go there, took them there, and now folks and children are dying of dehydration because NO ONE Has bothered to bring food or water to them...

THE GOVERNOR OF LA and the MAYOR OF NO are UTTERLY INCOMPETENT!!! You cannot tell me that since MONDAY you could not have airlifted WATER to these people at the very least?

THIS IS INFATHONABLE.... HOW COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT DO YOU HAVE TO BE....

" I cant believe the Army, Natl Guard, Navy or some other unit cannot sling load a CH 47 with MREs and water into that area. Some logisticians are not with the program. These people are STARVING for crying out loud. There's Ft Rucker AL, (if they are still in business) and there are Army bases throughout the South. It aint that damn far away to get the essentials to include troops to patrol the streets. Fly cover with gunships if necessary.
Someone at state or federal level needs to increase the tempo on support."

I'm with you- except if you start to drop supplies into this crowd- I believe there would be a stampede .
Blanco and her TAG are responsible for directing the Louisiana National Guard assets.
The LNG AG does what Gov Blanco orders him to do.
Governor Blanco and not President Bush- which the media does not understand.
The woman is clearly inept-( from what I have seen, she looks to be in shock )
and she cannot be allowed to continue to direct the Louisiana National Guard operations.
President Bush will be blamed because the media does not understand what National Guard means and their charter.
But, at this point who gets the blame is irrelevant-Blanco has to be taken out of the chain of command.

The first U.S. units were into SW Asia in less than 24 hours, deployed from Diego Garcia. I knew one of them, a Guardsman who lives a few houses down from my old place in Cary. Exactly what units I can't say just now.

The money took longer; Congress had to get organized to spend it.

There have been many instances of rescue workers being shot at. I've been watching the news and they have talked of police being fired on as well as volunteer rescue workers in boats being fired upon. Buses and cars have been hijacked at gun point. I just read that some reporters have hired security because they are scared. One reporter was warned by a police officer to hide his bottle of water or he would be mugged. The safety of rescue workers has to be taken into consideration.

If I hear one more sound bite or picture of a huge black woman bitching about not having any ICE when she has no place to store it or electricity to keep it for any length of time, I will have to go outside and puke, I swear.

The one I heard was wondering where her FEMA trailer was.

It almost makes you think that she stayed put so that she could be a victim and then get her FEMA trailer. The ashtrays in her current house are probably dirty, anyway.

money to Africa to combat AIDS .. in the sum of $ 15 BILLION because some people can't behave themselves.
That were we need to start, cut the funding for the $ 15 BILLION Aids program to Africa, we are justified to stop the funding because we have our own national crisis.

I lived in New York during Dinkins AND Guiliani, and learned to appreciate Guiliani. Except that he chased the chestnut roasting guys off the streets, the idiot. I loved those things.

we can beat Nazism and communism, set out to defeat jihadism, but a few malcontents with guns and we're helpless. Nice.

I'm afraid that once we hear the stories coming out the Super Thunderdome, we're going to be more horrified than ever.

It's time to look at our own cities and root these elements out before a disaster brings them to the surface.

I've lived in the New York area for most of my life. The problem with Giuliani is that he can only function in a "crisis mode" in a jurisdiction that is normally run by incompetent leaders. He would be a marginal leader at best in any other part of the country, and most Americans would find the guy utterly unbearable.
