ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. A well-known Florida newspaper says one of its reporters was shot and wounded while covering the hurricane aftermath in Baton Rouge.
The St. Petersburg Times says Marcus Franklin was shot Monday night while on his way back to a motel. The newspaper says the reporter was at a stop sign in a dimly-lit area when a man with a revolver walked up to the car and asked for his money. Franklin says he heard a pop but didn't realize he'd been shot in the stomach until he started driving off.
The 34-year-old journalist called 9-1-1 and was taken to the hospital. He was treated and released. Doctors decided not to remove the bullet, saying it was too risky. Officials say he was expected to fly back to St. Petersburg earlier today.
I was always partial to "Stand and deliver!"
Baton Rouge has its own thugs. I wouldn't assume anything about this yet. Will check with locals.

Gotta believe some reader of the Saint Pete times shot this guy for the usual liberal lies his paper puts out.
It is clearly a rag slanted by liberal input.
yep, the infamous North BR which was the home of working class and now is the home of BR crime.
He must have tried to turn around. When I drive thru that area on the way to the airport I am always worried I will have to get off for some reason.
It isn't safe. And one of our home grown criminals shot him. No refuge crime here.
Maybe the reporter won't be as liberal as he used to be.
How's he going to pass through the metal detector? ;-)
Some whites wish to use the very same "race-baiting" tools and verbiage that the racialists of other "political identities" has used -- to all racialists -- this is considered -- "leveling the playing field".
It's a lie and a trick.
It coarsens all discourse, which of course plays right into the hands of racialists (of all categories, worldwide) who want to tear apart and balkanize not just the US but the world into race-based enclaves.
Again, the far left and far right: PREACH MULTICULTURALISM, but in fact, it is not their goal as most think it is.
Being able to frankly speak about matters, such as what is happening in NO -- requires a sensitivity. Some are angry that that "sensitivity" has only been directed and accorded to minorities. Understandable. But coarsening the debate is not the answer, IMHO and IMHE -- nor the path to a civil society.
Even the looters hate the media.
bookmark.
I remember reading while back that per capita Baton Rouge has more murders than Houston.
To most reporters the word "revolver" just means "gun".
At least we gleaned from the article was that he was shot by a "black revolver."

Lack of a description tells me all I need to know....

"The racism on FR is getting more and more out of hand everyday."
No, it's not. What's happening is, more and more people here are getting tired of being called racists for simply stating facts. How do we know, to a very high certitude, that this perp was black? He wasn't DESCRIBED. Over the years, Freepers have turned up countless crimes where the initial reports purposely avoided mentioning race, and only for PC reasons. The kind of crime described in this report is very much a black M.O. crime. Beyond that, with the very high black population in that area--and yes, factoring in the lawlessness that has erupted, and who has been doing it--most people here would take huge bets that this perp was black. It's only logical. Of all the serious crime that has been reported in the aftermath of Katrina, it's likely that 90% or more was done by black perpetrators. Live with it.
As someone who has lived through three major disruptions in three major cities (77 blackout, NYC; 92 LA riots; 94 LA earthquake), I have personally witnessed bands of blacks on the prowl to commit felonies, in their aftermaths. There is a permanent black criminal class in most of our major cities, and statistically small though it may be, when calamity strikes, they go into multiple-felony mode. Ask any LEOs here to speak of it. Please don't be PC about the world we live in. Sometimes, people are just being descriptive, not racist.
Pls. see #138.
So.. List the racists if you will. By FReepmail if you like.
I'd be interested to see whom you consider a racist.
Personally, I have seen very little racism here - but then again, I haven't been looking for it.
