Military says "No." to Nagin (Won't take part in Mayor's debacle)
CNN | 9/7/05 | CNN Headline News

Posted on 09/07/2005 5:41:44 AM PDT by RGSpincich

CNN Headline news reporter just stated that the military will not force folks from their homes. "Refusing to force Americans from their homes", said the noticeably British reporter. Further, they will not let residents deteriorate in their own homes. The military will continue to get water and food to those remaining in New Orleans, effectively undermining Nagin's mandatory evacuation order.

Power will be restored first to the pumps (storm water) along with the sewage treatment facilities and the police / fire and city hall and the jails. So, something is up with this order. Dry areas will not have a significant problem with power and sewage being brought back on line. Only the flooded areas need to be completely evacuated at this time.
City officials will need a place to stay close to downtown as recovery continues. I'm sure there are a few officials that live in the dry areas (west of NO across the river) that will be crucial to recovery and they can share their homes with other city employees that were flooded. Funny thing I've noticed, except for debris removal, the west sections of NO (across the river to the West) is where some of the power comes from to the city I believe and the MSM isn't saying a lot about the condition of that particular area. Satellite photos show it dry. Something's up with respect to the potential abuse of power and LA officials.

Eventually the media might realise that this is the big story, that Nagin and Blanco refuse to talk to each other. Even before the storm they probably weren't friendly. After the storm they are acting like children.

One story explained how Nagin whined to Bush about Blanco, and Bush had to meed privately with Blanco. It sounded like when I have to referee between my two children. Can't imagine how frustrated the president was to find out that the two elected leaders responsible for all these people were actually spoiled brats.

And then to have HIM get blamed for anything......

>>>but as of this morning, power and water are restored as well as phone service.

I thought I heard that on 1010wins too!

This makes me even more suspicious of Eminent Domain thoughts.

Nagin is planning the largest eminent domain land grab in history.

Scary thought, considering Kelo vs. New London...

"I am having a hard time keeping count. Is this the third, fourth, or fifth mandatory evacuation order for New Orleans?"

Nagin's trying to make up for issuing the "first" mandatory evacuation order 24-48 hours AFTER it was too late to do any good. Or, maybe he finally located those buses after all.

My 2 cents worth. Could it be that a decision has been made to not rebuild? The only way that could be carried out is to have everyone leave. As long as some stay they could never do it. If they got everyone out they could then say no one is ever allowed back in and the area is then condemned. Taking off tin foil hat now.

Another mandatory evacuation!

They didn't leave when they had police. They'll leave now? Yea!

That's cool. I still maintain, if they dredge, dredge, dredge they can do a lot of good things with the muck.

Since they are now fully aware that the government is not on their side and totally untrustworthy, why should they obey them now. Perhaps they would LIKE to cause a Gush Katif situation.

They have to rebuild. One little tidbit the MSM doesn't mention that is making me crazy is, NOLA ports are the foundations of our economy. NOLA has the largest port in the US by traffic and goods. The Ports export more than 52 million tons a year. It is VITAL for our agriculture industry.

We inport about 17 million tons, through those ports too.

Is the sewer system working? Or does every "flush" just add to the coliform count? I have not heard one reporter mention the sanitation system of NOLA. But I am envisioning that all sewage has to be pumped somewhere. It is not really 'drainage.'

Then you will hear the "land grab by the rich" charge again.

And they will be right. The basic homeowner is going to be screwed.

There are other ports that could take up the slack, my home town of Houston comes to mind. Also, the port could be moved up river to Baton Rouge with no problem. No, something is up with this latest order. The cost to rebuild NO is going to be astronomical only to leave it vulnerable to future storms.

"The military should air drop the following items to the liberals who refuse to evacuate:

1. Body bag
2. Magic marker
3. Toe tag "

I think you're missing the point: the folks who won't evac are not the liberals, they're the conservatives, who are conserving their homes and properties. The stinking mayor is the liberal.

I wonder why the police said the city was "destroyed"? And I thought it was going to take "months" to get the water out, but it sounds like it's getting dryer by the hour, and the water's gone down 2-3 feet in the deepest areas.

(It was funny on F&F this am when the affable eva braun of morning cable, Ed Hill was trying to bust on Julie Gerberdine, hea of the CDC about "what about the effect of all this polluted water on Lake Ponchartrain?" Julie kept talking about the hope is dilution will help a lot, but the real answer, of course, is that the water has got to go, and the environmental impact is secondary at this time.)

Ed Hill should go home and take care of her litter.
