Blanco rescinds Nagin evacuation order - my title
9/7/05 | me

Governor Blanco just said on Fox News Channel that Mayor Nagin does not have the authority to order evacuation of New Orleans, that the authority rests with her....and she doesn't have evidence that it is unsafe!

I think the media drives this story only because the think the can hurt the GOP with it. Characterize the GOP as racist, etc. I see this as a right v. left battle instead of a fed v. state battle. All for the reason that "everything is politics" to the left.

Can not argue with that!

Elba Wilson Carswell, a kinsman of mine, was the Chairman for the Department of Journalism at Louisiana Tech University, back during the 70s and 80s. He was a recipient of the coveted Tower Award.

He had a personal code of ethics that he required all majors in Journalism to adhere in their writings while at Louisiana Tech. If these same code of ethics were applied today... to all journalism... we would have no journalist, reporters, talking heads or any type of news media. They would simply be put out of business due to the integrity of those creating news.

The kind of people who most make me laugh are the one's whose laugh is contagious....something about their laughter, you can but help laugh...even if the subject matter isn't even funny. : )

I think Governor Blanco has given us a new all around, all purpose cuss word. Just insert Blanco into any sentence that you normally would have used a four letter word.

Yup. We already head "Clymer" for men, so now we can use "Blanco" for women … ...

Well, with your last post I think you pretty much proved conclusively that Blanco has never read the evacuation plan with her insistence that she and she alone can order an evacuation.

Nagin, I think, has. I'm coming around to the thought that he hasn't been as bad as it might have seemed, but he's been stymied at every turn by the state government.

The problem is that the mad woman may wind up killing more people by exposing them needlessly to New Orleans' toxic soup.

I hope this all gets a thorough airing at the Congressional hearings . . .

Which is why, for centuries, theatres and later radio and R.V. shows, hired professional laughers to attend shows; prelaugh- tracks, which worked far better. LOL

Prospero-Thanks for the Honore Quote!!

Famishus and F. Nerks-Let's hire one of those folks who write novellas on a grain of rice, and have them tattoo this on Blanco's forehead.

Yeah, I remember reading about those people...quite interesting the old ways of doing things...but in current productions, they still do some things like that, like holding up signs that say "clap" or whatever.

Audience applause signs go back to early radio shows.

But once the laugh-track was invented, live audience reactions were no longer needed nor wanted; sadly.

Laugh-tracks are terrible and can even make something funny unfunny.

This woman seems to be avoiding all criticism from the MSM. Complete immunity.

I believe that Nagin is only incompetent - not sneaky or devious or ill-meaning - he just literally did not know how to do his job properly and his police force completely failed him as well.

There is the subtle weird racism and sexism of the Left very much in play here. Women and Minorities are promoted to authority, but are allotted no responsibility to perform by the Democrats. Nothing can be their fault.

Blanco is, objectively speaking, an utter moron something on the order of a Barbara Boxer without the slick socialist-speak staff. But, as a woman, she cannot be held responsible for anything, for to do so would be sexism.

Nagin has a recurring substance abuse problem, but even though of minimal intelligence and little meaningful prior experience, apparently is regarded as a peace-keeping schmoozer and if a well-known incompetent, at least a compliant pro-local business kind of guy... and a bit of a joke. If you think he is an idiot, you ought to take a look at his staff, e.g. his Police Chief. Top-to-bottom, NOLA is (was) in the hands of prototypical AAAs (Affirmative Action Clymers). If they ever rebuild the place, which seems likely, they ought to make an effort to include other local minorities in city government! Nagin is also plenty sneaky and devious, but no more of a crook than anyone else in the Big Easy. But he IS black, and therefore to hold him responsible for anything, or heaven forfend, assign consequences to his heinous neglect of duty is, ipso facto racism. I personally hope General Honoré personally beats the living spit out of him (and several of his Amos'n'Andy type city hall cronies) and feeds him to an alligator. Now that wouldn't be racism, would it?

Between these two clueless nincompoops, Blanco and Nagin, and their appointees, NOLA didn't have a prayer of a coordinated First Repsonse. Even worse, it is becoming clear that, except to hardened Democrats, that their incompetence and malfeasance at first blocked Federal efforts, and afterwards hindered them.

BTW Got some shell-shocked NOLA "Evacuees" in the house. 24-hour drive, with fuel in short supply in the South. As they recover, I should be able to de-brief them.

The same power to order an evacuation conferred upon the Governor is also delegated to each political subdivision of the State by Executive Order.

I'd think Blanco would know whether or not she had issued such an Executive Order. Without one, Nagin doesn't have the power & I doubt he'd have control of any forces necessary to enforce the order anyway. Legally the witch is right, but morally...

Complete insanity if you ask me. MSM's gonna have to throw her overboard after this crap.

Nope. They'll start plugging her for national office.

That's too bad...as it would really be better to have silence than canned laughter...we don't need to be "told" when something's funny so we know to laugh at what they said or did. (yes, we do have brains and can decide for ourselves. :)

Blanco *could* have given Nagin the power, but she didn't. I think it also would have been necessary for her to give Nagin power to commandeer things during the emergency evacuation, like the school buses. The school board had power over them & they refused to release control over them to the city. The city & school board negotiated about the buses for the past year, but they never reached any agreement.

Like you, I'm coming around to about Nagin too.

Make sure you also fault the NO school board, cuz they were the ones who had power over the soggy school buses.
