Mayor Nagin Joins Race Baiters
NewsMax ^ | Sept.11, 2005

Up until yesterday, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin had refused to join critics who say that Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts were slow because the majority of the storm's victims were black.

In an interview Saturday with the New Orleans Times-Picayune, however, Nagin said his thinking had evolved.

"The more I think about it, definitely race played into this,” he told the paper.

"How do you treat people that just want to walk across the bridge and get out, and they’re turned away, because you can’t come to a certain parish?" the embattled mayor complained. "How do resources get stacked up outside the city of New Orleans and they don’t make their way in? How do you not bring one piece of ice?

"If it’s race," said Nagin, "fine, let’s call a spade a spade, a diamond a diamond. We can never let this happen again.

"Even if you hate black people and you are in a leadership position, this did not help anybody,” he added.

I hate it when the mayor lets the buses flood and doesn't execute the plan.

Yo, Ray! They wouldn't be walking across any bridge if you'd loaded them on buses.

Guess he figured his other assinine comments just were not cutting the mustard, so to speak, in trying to place the blame elsewhere. Now, as is usual of most Leftists, he will resort to race baiting to cover his sorry arse.

Nagin let 700 hotel guests cut in front of the line at the superdome.

Americans have decided: Decision 1. Nagin is a loser. Only the indigenous population would re-elect him.

After 9/11, Rudy walked the streets of NYC and people reached out their hands to touch him. If nagin was to walk the streets of NO the people would reach out to 'touch' him too.

Sounds to me like the good mayor is beginning to reason his very own political affiliation, albeit a little late.

You know clearly there were more than just whites and blacks living in New Orleans.

Why is it the hispanics never use the race issue?

Why are the asians not using the race issue?

At some point you have to drop the "poor me" issue and get off your butt and take care of yourself.

There are so many blacks who grow up with drive in the step, rather than "oh woize me".

Men and wowen control their own destiny - good or bad.

Joins them??? He was leading the pack while the hurricane was still blowing things around in New Orleans. I thought that he had slowed down some lately. That may just be because so many real experts have been playing the race card he was just overshadowed.

Nagin has a lot to answer for, but on this issue he (and
many other pundits) may have a point. The police bridge
blockades need some serious investigation.

Also, the formal evac plan presumably called out routes
and destinations. Did the plan have the agreement of
the jurisdictions of transit and destination?

I don't know where you live but there are several "hispanic" organizations dedicated to playing the race card whenever possible. Several are national. LULAC, MALDEF, La Raza for instance.
