I am reminded of Cardinal Ratzinger's Pro Eligendo Homily before the Conclave began.

"Today, having a clear faith based on the Creed of the Church is often labeled as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, that is, letting oneself be "tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine", seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one's own ego and desires. "

Some countries are reluctant to use either symbol and want a new emblem which has no religious connotations.

Oh good grief!

I like your target symbol.

During WW11, when my dad was fighting in Europe, He said the red cross showed up and was selling cartons of smokes to the troops. When they opened to cartons they clearly stated..No charge to our fighting men overseas...complements of R.J.Reynolds.

Dad said more than a few of their lil white trucks were "accidentally" hit by friendly fire.

It was inevitable.

Does anyone not see the hand writing on the wall?

How about the Jolly Roger?

I wish I could laugh, 'cause that's funny. But it will probably be a good symbol as they get into the euthanasia/abortion/sterilization business, if they aren't already.

Wow! Classic Chesterton. He was a very wise man.

There is an applicable Chesterton quote for just about every modern dilemma.

Here we go again with religious symbols issue. Don't see a need to change either of them. Maybe they need to add a Star of David instead.

Does the red cross symbol used by the Red Cross organization have any religious origins? The Christian cross has the cross bar about 3/4 way up, not in the center. The Red Cross symbol is more of a plus sign than a cross (i.e. "+" vs "†").

Something tells me the UN is behind all of this.

With all due respect, this postcard:

predates the National Socialists' misappropriation and abuse of the ancient swastika symbol.

But you already knew that ...

It's actually a reverse of the Swiss flag.

Here's another that is truly representative of what they think:

(WARNING: MAY BE VERY OFFENSIVE TO CHRISTIANS).

I have no doubt I'll be reported for posting this, but the Red Cross' treatment of volunteers during disasters is just a little worse than PC, IMO.

I believe it was taken from the Red Crosses worn on the tabards of the Crusaders who served as medics. There was an order of the Knights Hospitallier that took the wounded from the battlefields and nursed them.

Perhaps they could replace the cross with the Salvation Army's 800 number, because I'd send money to them.
