But what about the turn the other cheek -- I always assumed that meant that someone who attacked me verbally should summarily be mooned. Any thoughts??

I think that in a situation like this, you should strike the attacker hard enough to spin them around - causing them to thereby "turn the other cheek." At that point, you can strike that one as well.

But I'm willing to listen to anything that Bob might have to offer in this regard as well.

It was the prudent thing to do, to turn the other cheek,
One cheek too many though, could mean that you were weak.
