I wish Rita would hurry up and get here.

I need to loot a TiVO HD tuner before Sunday.

I bet this sucker becomes another Cat 5. The way it jumped to a two kind of reminded me the way the Katrina jumped from a Cat 3 to 5. There is a a lot of warm water to where it is heading..

Speaking of hurricanes, it now looks like Hurricane Jova will skirt by Hawaii (which you can see in the left center of the graphic).

Larger image here

Current maximum sustained winds are 115MPH. According to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecast, Jova is likely to remain at that strength for the next 24 hours.

Received call from RV park owner in Port Aransas (just north of Corpus Christi) City has asked that all high profile vehicles/trailers leave Port A by Wednesday. Guess I will run down early Wed. AM and pull out my trailer. Owner says he is boarding up now and will leave on Wed. also.

I'm checking in now - I may be directly affected by this storm inland, and I know for a fact that these live threads are the BEST place for information!

In fact, my husband requested that I am using these threads to make risk assessments for businesses in the hurricane's path - and he uses the information to report to his clients...

Thank you, thank you NautiNurse!!

P.S. Hubby has been in New Orleans for the last week, doing armed security and disaster recovery for his clients down there. We're praying we won't have to do the same for his clients in Houston...

Quick question for those of us currently in the eye-path of this bad girl...

Can anybody give a brief summary of Texas law regarding mandatory evacuation? If we are forced to leave, can we come back the next day? Two days? I am looking for information typical to rural areas, as I do not live in or near Houston for a hundred miles or so...

Very glad for the new law clarification on "traveling with firearms!"

BTW - VERY cool hurricane forecast link:

I just heard on Hannity and Combs this sucker is almost a Cat 3... At the way it is gaining speed this Hurricane should be a strong Cat 5 by Friday.

FWIW......all evacuating Texans get ready for cell-phone hell. They aren't going to work very well, the circuits get jammed, etc. You may or may not get calls, you may or may not be able to communicate with loved ones for days, calls will be dropped, you name it. The only sure way of communicating will be text messaging, that will hold up. Make sure your friends and family have the telephone numbers to the areas you are evacuating to.

My prediction (for what it's worth) is that Rita will pick up power after it moves into the Gulf. Reason is Gulf waters are warmer than the Florida Keys. Rita is now a #3 hurricane. Tomorrow she will be a #4 and pick up speed heading northward. Rita will veer away from Galveston, Texas and more towards New Orleans.

Rita will have 140 mph winds by Thursday. Another direct hit on N.O. is coming. Prophetic Biblical allegories galore.
