Radical Islam interprets the Koran differently than than mainstream Islam.
A point that some here seem to miss.
It is about time that we drop the altruism and idealism, and seize upon our role as the most powerful and dominant military force on this planet.
While this may be the most effective way to present ourselves to our enemies, it undermines the fabric of motivation within our troops. It may be a tactically effective presentation, but it is strategically foolish to allow the mindset of our enemies to determine how to conform our own ideals. The blowback within our own nation would only enable more disasters like Waco.
Oh yeah, right. In a pig's ear. If the mainstream interpreted it differently why aren't they out campaigning against the radicals? It is because they both adhere to the doctrine, "kill the infidels". Because they can't. It is against their koran and that would make them an infidel.
There are over 20 million people in Iraq. Most households have at least one functioning assault rifle with plenty of ammo. There are about 150,000 Soldiers in Iraq, maybe less. Of those, most either never leave their Logistical Support Area / Forward Operating Base, or if they do leave it is only a trip on the highway from one base to another. In the cities, where most fighting takes place, our troops are outnumbered and outgunned (in terms of number of people with weapons), yet most casualties are sustained by IEDs. If all Arabs were of the same mindset as the radicals, then there would be a hell of a lot more chaos.
There is civil war in Iraq. Most of the Iraqis love having us there to be the middle man in their civil war. As long as our people are there and our money is there they will continue to shower us with praise. If and when we leave you can bet that we will see the muslim ideology replace us. What we see now is only temporary and there will never be a democracy as we know it in Iraq. The koran still rules.
BUMP for later read
Why do so many Iraqis risk their lives to vote, give the coalition tips of "insurgent" activity at great personal risk, and take up low-paying and highly dangerous jobs as policemen and Soldiers?
Because these people are considered infidels even if they themselves don't think they are.
later for me
Who are the "these people" that you are referring to? The Iraqis that I mentioned in post 28, the so-called insurgents, or the American Soldiers?
All those who support the coalition forces are considered infidels. This includes Iraqis who become policemen and those who assist our forces. Just because they are helping us now does not mean that they aren't Muslims. If they consider themself a Muslim then they adhere to the koran. If they adhere to the koran than they still consider us infidels. Just because they are helping us now does not mean that in the future they will be not be the ones shooting at us or bombing us.
What you just described is the viewpoint of the Wahhabi's and the most radical elements of Islam. I guess that you think it is the mainstream view in Iraq? It's not. But I guess that was our original disagreement in post 23.
As far as I am concerned if a person practices the koran then they also condone the killing of infidels. Doesn't matter whether they look and act meek and mild. It is a religion of hate and it is infecting many societies, ours included.
