What actions indicate a Democrat man-hating wench? The fact that she isn't married? I hope you have more then that to back up your statement.

Then how in the hell did Clarence Thomas make it through the Democrat senate?

I doubt it would ever make it to the full senate...

Don't give up. The sun'll come out tomorrow.

You might even be safe in betting your bottom dollar.

Please keep posting. Your thoughtless remarks are really giving me some good laughs this morning.

Imagine...if smeone doesn't have kids "he'd have no leg to stand on in the abortion/adoption debate." What utter nonsense!

By my standards, this person is the LAST person to nominate to the SCOTUS, dirtboy.

You don't know jack about this person, so how can you even evaluate what her standards and principles are?

-Michael Katz, depressed first year law sudent, who feels all is lost for my generation to come

Oh please. If I had a dollar for every "Bush didnt do what I wanted him to do, so Im voting third party or Democrat!", I wouldnt be sitting here at age 38 doing friggin' Sociology homework! The bottom line is no one knows what ths woman is like. Wait and see what the hearings bring. But something tells me you have no intention of doing that..

I don't know whether it's a "bad" pick, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. What I've been trying to say is, was this the "best" pick the president could make? Totally different questions there. And IMHO, the answer to the second question is "no."

The only problem with that outlook is, with the complete blank judicial slate and the "checkered" political one, by the time we find out what Miers is made of, she'll have a lifetime seat. To me, this stinks of Souter.

OK. But to add to my point, I'm currently watching Fox News and Juan Williams is HAPPY and states that the Democrats are PLEASANTLY SURPRISED.

Bush has blown it big time. He looks weak. He is weak.

No, but I'm not sure we should nominate him to the Supreme Court either. Not when other highly qualified, longtime conservatives are available.

My point is, folks are trying to show she is unsuitable because she once gave to Clinton and Gore. I'm showing the historical context of such and how it has no bearing - like the other handful of factoids generating all the hand-wringing today.

Re Einstein's advocating socialism...

Thanks for the link, that's interesting stuff.

Some thoughts:

Socialism isn't necessarily the 4-letter word that many seem to think it is. The US economy is a mixed (ie capitalist and socialist) one where some (most) property is privately owned and some publicly, and we seem to do OK.

I wonder how Einstein would react to the abundance of evidence now available (ie since 1949 when he wrote "Why Socialism") that refutes the effectiveness of a purely socialist or maybe better communist/socialist approach. The USSR, North Korea, Cuba, and Red China are examples of national econommies where what he seems to advocate have blatantly failed.

The advantage of private ownership of say, wages, is demonstrated by the Laffer Curve. Historical proof of the LC has been demonstrated in 3 fairly recent US administrations - Kennedy, Reagan, and GW Bush. Einstein, as a mathematician, could not ignore this evidence.

So I'm not sure he would write "Why Socialism" were he alive today.

Nor was I saying that Ms Mier's undergraduate studies guarantees she would be a strict contructionist, only that in the absence of much other evidence this was a) interesting and b) instructive as to her mindset.

The evidence that she's strict-constructionist is that she and the President say she is. People will make up their own minds as to whether to believe them. Personally I trust this guy W.

Ahh - I think you have the correct site though. Non-denominational Christian organization in Texas.

http://www.exodusministriesinc.com/

Exodus Ministry is a non-denominational Christian organization established to assist ex-offenders and their families become productive members of society by meeting both their spiritual and physical needs.

Stephens is 85, and I believe that Ginsberg is quite ill.

I would be surprised if Bush does not get another nomination.

I know plenty about her dirtboy. I know that she's not nearly as good as Luttig or Jones, or JRB, and that she's not what Bush promised us.

In fact, I doubt that there is any FReeper here who has as good an insight into reading judges as I do. I've proven myself here, what have you accomplished?

First point. She led the Exodus Ministries, whose expressed purpose is to lead others to Jesus Christ while attending to their needs and restoring them to living constructive lives. I don't know many people who do that, who aren't Christians, do you? I know plenty of fine Christian women whom God called to be single, and have done marvellous things for Christ because they didn't have a family to worry about. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with her ability to make policy.

As I posted above, I agree IF she is a Christian. Obviously, being a Christian changes everything. Are you sure that she was in fact a director of this organization?

One more point. It is not that choosing to remain single and renounce a family is unimportant, but that the reasons for doing so are all important. If she did it for liberal, secularist, careerist reasons, it speaks volumes about her policy choices. If she, instead, did it for Christian reasons, it also speaks volumes in a different direction.

I know, but unfortunately, the president is the one who gets to pick, and he's made his choice.

Background research. I didn't watch all of Bush's announcement, but if I remember correctly, he just said that he knew Miers well in general, and they have a long history, that kind of thing.

She's represented him in a few cases, and gave money to his 2000 stop-Gore-from-stealing-the-election effort.

Personally, I could care less if she is married or if she has children. Perhaps, she was so devoted to her career that she thought it not fair it any future family. It's the same reason why Catholic priests are not permitted to marry. They are to devote their lives to Christ.

It doesn't make her a bad person, or a good one.

What I do care about, is how she will interpret the constitution.
