This was one of my thoughts as well.

She is loyal enough to put up with all the BS of being a sacrificial lamb.

However, why play games?

He can get anyone through now who is qualified. I'll go to the mat for the guy if I'm convinced the nominee is worth it.

To which Richard Nixon replied, "Put a f-cking robe on him. Then he'll be distinguished".

I do not care if she is distinguished. I believe the Supreme Court is too big a deal to take a chance she may turn out to be okay.

I guess if we don't want to be hypocritical we hope the Senate passes her because she is qualified and the President wants her,, isn't that what we were saying to the Democrats as they decided on Roberts?

for those who says Bush picked a friend,, well maybe that's best because all the horror picks by the Republican Presidents in the last 50 years have been people the Presidents didn't know very well personally,,,

that said Bush better know something we don't

Boy, do I agree with you!! George W. Bush has been the biggest disappointment in my voting life. In MY opinion, weighing the negatives against the "positives" comes up with FAR more negatives. There are times when I think that all of his protestations about constructionist judges, plus any number of his other "promises" are nothing more than lull-into-complacency statements. What have we gotten from GW - a tax cut. Even the war in Iraq is being fought in a half-assed manner - again, in my opinion. I am sick to my stomach this morning.

from what I can gather she is already more right than Sandra Day O'conner who the great right wing Ronald Reagan nominated

personally I would have liked a Janice Rogers Brown

and she's 60 - at her age, how long will she be able to serve?

this is just a very tough decision to figure out.

"It really is too bad because Mark Levin has been one of his most steadfast supporters."

What's too bad is not that Levin criticized Bush.
Bush deserves more scathing criticism than that - and I hope he gets it.

I hope his "nominee" is rejected by his own party - and - if we are unlikely enough to have to live her, gets put in there by the Dems.

What's too bad is that Bush turned out the way he did - just another northeastern RINO like his Dad, who walks and talks like a Texan, but thinks and acts like A Massachusetts or Connecticut Liberal - which is what he and his father really are.

Well, he DID beat out Kerry in college.

Kerry got FIVE "D"s with a 76 cum. Bush the Bushwacker only one "D" and a 77 for his cum.

Pathetic isn't it?

I just listened to Laura Ingrahm in the car ... she seems to be calming down and willing to give it time to learn more about her

But I want to know the more important question

What's Miers feeling about the Hapless Toad!

Doh!

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/10/03/D8D0KLSG6.html

"Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers gave $1,000 to Democrat Al Gore's unsuccessful presidential bid in 1988 _ and 12 years later contributed to the effort to end Gore's chance of winning the White House...."

"In 1988, Miers, then a lawyer in private practice, donated $1,000 to Gore, the Tennessee Democrat then seeking the party's presidential nomination, according to Federal Election Commission reports. Gore eventually bowed out and Michael Dukakis secured the nomination...."

"Miers also gave $1,000 to another prominent Democrat _ Lloyd Bentsen, the longtime Texas senator who in 1988 ran for re-election and also was Dukakis' vice presidential choice on the Democratic ticket that year...."

"Miers contributed $1,000 to the Democratic National Committee Services Corp. in 1988..."

I hear she once gave money to the Gore/Lieberman campaign for president.

Please do some research before spouting that kind of nonsense.

While she never donated money to Gore/Lieberman, she did in fact, donate $1000 to Al Gore presidential campaign in 88'

LOL! That damn hapless toad.

She's not a judge, --- no paper trail --- and clearly, GWB knows her personally and for a goodly long time.

He knows she's pro-life, but there's no way democrats can prove it.

She might be a brilliant choice.

The comparisons to Souter are invalid. GHWB did not know Souter. Harriet is a close friend of POTUS's.

I think quite a few conservatives donated to those two,, Gore and Bentson weren't considered liberal then

I don't know....I kind of thought the same thing (that she might be a trial balloon). Instead, I truly believe he wants her in. Makes for interesting thought, though.

I worked 30/hours per week as city chair for my town for the reelection campaign, but I'm not stupid. Maybe, I am, after all I did all that work, and I got this.

Hapless toad..LOL

I hope I don't get flamed here but I will say this. As far as her donating to dems in '88, I was a dem until 2001. I still need to change my voter registration. For now I'm going to trust the President in the fact that he knows her. Just like you know your family, friends etc. better than anyone else, for now I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he knows Meirs better than any one of us. I hope I'm not proven wrong.

I do not care if she is distinguished. I believe the Supreme Court is too big a deal to take a chance she may turn out to be okay.

Your argument is that she is not qualified. As petitfour pointed out, the constitution does not list a single qualification to be on the Supreme Court. You don't even need to be a lawyer.

Despite the liberals myth making about this branch of goverment, there is no super power involved in becoming a Justice. Look at the horrible legal decisions of the last quarter century. The esteemed Burger Court gave us Roe v. Wade. The Rhenquist Court's immutable wisdom handed down the decision in Kelo v. City of New London.

The job of an appeals court judge isn't hard. Look at the facts, look at the law, apply the facts to the law. Render a conclusion.

Do you have any basis whatsoever to suggest that she might be less than okay?

While I hope you are right, you are going to have to explain the logic of how the Senate is going to reject Miers.

For Democrats, this is the scene from Animal House where the kid is reading playboy on the bed, and the girl in the bunny suit flies in through the bedroom window and lands on his lap.

Why must this be so hard for conservatives? Clinton gets a chance to appoint a justice, and who does he go for? Ginsberg, ex-ACLU chief counsel. Had to be a no-brainer for him, right?

We get TWO SHOTS! One, we get mysterio, and next we get a DNC donor and Al Gore supporter.

Why? How STUPID do they think we actually are? It's a question to which I fear the answer.
