I think you are overly optimistic. Instead of your scenario, I could easily see Spector, Chaffee, Snowe, Collins, and a couple of other Republicans voting no on Janice Rogers Brown. That's reality. Should it be otherwise? Yes, but Bush has not ever punished those in his own party for any reason, and he's not going to start in 2005.

I agree the base wants a fight, just as the left base wants a fight. Bush wants a damn SUPREME COURT THAT IS ORIGINALIST. Read the journals of G. Washington during the Revolution---how all his "base" (his loyal generals) wanted him to fight with congress over sending him loser generals like Gates and Lee, and how he stauchly kept focused on the prize. His goal was not to pick a fight, it was to win THE fight.

I also don't think we should have an amedmnet banning a practice is the way to go. The best way to get rid of abortion is this, have it sent back to the state level, and let every state decide. If you don't like it, organize and vote the person in the state legislator who shares your views.. I think you are an idiot btw..
