I think it's more likely, given the nature of TATP, that he detonated the bomb by accident, while trying to arm or disarm the bomb, or while trying to transfer it from his backpack to inside of his clothes.

I don't rule out remote detonation by watchers, I just think it's less likely.

I've avoided discussing this story with my wife because we have plans to go to the Michigan Homecoming game this Saturday against Minnesota. If she read this thread she would not go to the game. The "Big House" holds over 107,000 people and will have a large regional TV audience. Probably a great target. I'm not much of a worrier, but I'll definitely have my guard up. They are already pretty thorough searching people who enter the stadium, and I am curious to see if security is any different that past weekends. Not too concerned once we get in, but at every entrance, especially the one nearest Stadium and Main Street, there are always large crowds gathered waiting for entry, or waiting to cross the street. Plus there are vendors selling things, etc. You wouldn't have to get into the stadium with a bomb to kill a lot of people. Then the panic would probably kill/injure more. Okay, now I am getting nervous.

I don't know how organized of a terrorist cell he belonged to if he was thinking about using fertilizer... then a few days later blows himself up using household chemicals... If anything the fertilizer shows that he wasn't completely focused on the TATP form of bombing...

Good question, PhiKapMom! Hopefully the person responsible for giving the Paki student a job in the athletic dept, will be forced to explain. The job probably gave the foreign student access to all kinds of security issues. How and why he got the job and his link to the bomber, are very important questions.

I've been reading on this topic since Saturday night and like others, was surprised at the none coverage coming from the MSM. Thank you for all your excellent reports.

I suspect they've already recruited some over the past two or three years. After 9/11, they probably decided to change their tactics to smaller attacks using domestic recruits against us. How does the deal with the kitchen matches fit into this part of the scenario? There have been account of him carrying hundreds of kitchen matches, and speculation that they might have been some sort of means of spreading disease.

There are posts that say the kitchen matches wound up on the ground near the park bench.

Nah, he wouldn'ta been thinking along the lines of a TRUCK BOMB or a LINCOLN TOWN CAR BOMB or anything like that. Clearly the backpack bomb was his first priority, and anything bigger or deadlier was just an afterthought.
