BEIRUT: In the latest official Syrian comment on the increasing pressure on Damascus, Premier Naji Otari said "all the gates of hell will open on the U.S. if it attempts to attack Syria."
Otari was replying to a report this week in Newsweek magazine revealing that Washington had debated launching military strikes inside Syria against camps used by insurgents operating in Iraq.

My guess is we have a 3 step plan so as not to face two fronts at the same time. Step is get Iraq self sufficient. Step two is aim our military resources towards Syria. Some fighting but Syria collapses politically. Our rear and flank are secure. Step three - aim our resources at Iran. Big fight but Iran collapses politically. Peace starts taking hold.

Sure, Saddam said the same thing and look where it got him. Iran battled Iraq for 8 years, we toppled Iraq in 10 days. Islamic militaries are worth squat!

These Islamic nations all have the little man complex. They talk trash until some docile big guy (America) kicks the crap out of them.

It is beginning to sound like we are going to give the troops a week long beach break. Syria has the nearest beaches, soooooooo - - - -.
Enviro whacko's are getting together with Jihaddi whackos to protest the up and coming tread marks. But their plaintive squeals will not be audible over the clanking of all those tank treads.
Rachel Corrie Syndrome may break out on a massive scale. The Horror! The Horror!. /sarcasm>

I read that a general was asked how long it would take to take Syria, and he said 15 days, one day to take it and two weeks to stop laughing.

"all the gates of hell will open on the U.S. if it attempts to attack Syria." Ohhh... there must be a number of gates in hell that he was able to say that... perhaps the devil intended that because the muslims are too numerous for a single gate.

The only way the United States would ever flatten a city the scale of Damascus would be if they forced our hand. Only thing I could contrive is a city attack on par with 9-11 or worse. We did not even flatten Kabul after 9-11 so there is no telling how bad it would take.

Isn't that what Saddam said? After the first Gulf War they asked a captured Republican Guard tank commander when he knew the Americans had arrived on the battlefield. His answer, "when my tank blew up".
