This morning President Bush met with Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the Commission of the European Communities in the Oval Office at the White House.

This afternoon, the President met with Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, Cabinet Members and Legislators in the East Room of the White House to sign the Homeland Security Appropriations Act for 2006, which increases border security, and provides more detention facilities and speedier removal of illegal immigrants.

The White House website has provided a Fact Sheet with the details of the Appropriations Act.

DrDeb.... Rush is no dummy, Reagan is his hero as he is mine, we all know the beating Reagan took from the media as they tried to define him over Iran/Contra, the media was not as brutal to Reagan as they are George W. Bush and I consider that a barometer of how great a conservative President will end up being in the history books.

Ronald Reagan will forever hold a special place in my heart, he was a father figure for me, I truly loved Ronald Reagan, when he died, a part of me did as well. But I am not blind to the facts. Ronald Reagan did not have to deal with anything close to the challenges this President has had to deal with, and Reagan made more crucial mistakes.... Before I post Reagan's mistakes, keep in mind that I love Ronald Reagan... But Reagan completely failed us when he pulled our troops out of Lebanon and he will be be partially held responsible for the lead up to 9/11 for that decision. Reagan also granted amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and he also doubled the size of the Federal budget in his 8 years.

George W. Bush has not backed down to any Terrorist acts, he has not granted Amnesty to illegals (The borders are more secure today than anytime in history) The size of the Federal budget has grown by 25% under George W. Bush, plus George W. Bush has had to deal with every national tragedy imaginable, probably not matched since Lincoln.

If we see Democracy spread through the Middle East over the next 10 years like what Reagan initiated in eastern Europe while he was the President. George W. Bush will go down in history as one of the best this great Nation has ever been blessed to have. All this carping over Miers and Rove or the bickering over spending and any other social policy will not be remembered, but his influence on the spread of Liberty will be taught in History Classes for generations to come.

I will say again what I have been saying for 4 years now.... When George W. Bush climbs aboard Marine One and waves to us Daily Dosers for the last time on January 20th, 2009, he will have changed the world for the better and his legacy of greatness will grow and grow for years to come.....MARK MY WORDS, we will miss this President terribly

I suspect that Jack Straw has probably requested to go to a football game as he is a great soccer fan and regularly attends his local team's games (Blackburn).

He probably wanted to sample live an American football match.

THANK YOU for you analysis of Reagan vis a vis GWB . . . What an excellent way to end my day!!

[Please e-mail your comments to Rush . . . I think he frequently forgets the realities of the Reagan presidency, making it easier for him to (unfairly) criticize GWB -- actually, that's a problem I have with many here at FR.]

Maybe part of the reason for that is a pure human one. Most of us either do or know people who look at friends, relatives or simple people we admire through rose tinted glasses especially after they have died or retired/become elderly. We even tend to do this to people that when they were in full vigor we actually criticized and argued with.

Oh, Sonny, do your old Mom proud. Give the hard-earned toaster to Mystery when she's back from the hospital so that you two can "toast" her new-found good health.

(Of course,I'll be sitting here with just stale bread to eat, but......)

He doesn't look like a worried White House to me.

Absolutely agree, petitfour. He is filled with joy........and not anxiety. It's great to see!

And I'm sure we will be til the day we die, too.

We'll hear the words of the song...... "You're still the one I want to talk to in bed" and be thinking of this loving First Couple even when they're 80 years old. :)
