Some generals seem to like the attention that a war can bring upon them. They know that history books will have their names in them if they have victories, so they want victories regarless of the cost, because little attention gets paid to anything else.
"I shall return" was a phrase that made the invasion of the Phillippines necessary in the mind of this general. It also gave me a place to be born: Clark AFB.
