Many adults in the United States believe Republican Rudy Giuliani should launch a White House bid, according to a poll by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. 54 per cent of respondents would like the former New York City major to run for president in 2008.
Republican Arizona senator John McCain is second on the list of prospective candidates with 52 per cent, followed by Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton with 48 per cent, and former North Carolina senator and 2004 Democratic vice-presidential nominee John Edwards with 47 per cent.
Less than 40 per cent of respondents support bids by Massachusetts senator and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, and U.S. state secretary Condoleezza Rice.
Giuliani garnered national and international attention in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The former New York City mayor currently heads Giuliani Partners, LLC—a consulting firm.
In an Oct. 5 speech to business leaders, Giuliani opened the door for a possible White House bid, saying, "I think I’ll return to politics."

So you wouldn't vote for Rudy if he ran on a conservative platform? I understand about McCain (Hell I wouldn't vote for McCain no matter what) but Rudy? Someone who already has broad name recognition and was at the heart of the worst terrorist attacks in U.S. history? C'mon.
If that's the case, they're not political conservatives.

There was a South Carliona poll that had McCain up big and Rudy in a middle of a pack lagging behind, I do not see how Rudy wins in the south. I got a feeling that Grahm is building a GOTV machine down there for McCain that might be diffult to break if conseverates are split between Allen, Brownback, ect.............
I think in today's celebrity ure, we need a name and a persona to defeat Hilary. It is unfortunate, and maybe I'm being cynical.
So let Hillary get elected and then lets see who you wish was in the WH when she socializes everything. Party trumps person because the RINO is better than the alternative, a flaming socialist. There are more parts of the Republican Party, like Libertarians, than hard line right wingers such as yourself.
McCain's too old and he has a history of scandals. Plus he has bizarre personality. The guy would lose a one-man race by himself.
With all the issues a President confronts, it is beyond idiocy to vote on who may, if he gets the opportunity, nominate a justice- who if they get the opportunity- may or may not overturn the Roe decision- which is any event will have no practical effect on abortion in this country.

So let Hillary get elected and then lets see who you wish was in the WH.....
Has it gotten you anywhere? We've had a pro-life candidate with a majority congress for 8 years (or will, by the time the election comes around) and abortion is still legal.
I see it as remarkably silly to base your vote on an issue the president will probably never share a room with.
I have no doubt Rudy will find a focus group tested way to coopt some people into putting aside their principles to vote for him. I think he's the only pro-abort the GOP could nominate.
But I and many, many others, the voters (many of them independents) who will simply not vote for social liberals, the Catholics who voted Bush over 'Catholic' Kerry because of social issues, ain't gonna buy what Rudy's selling.
Look at the Pennsylvania senate race. You neutralize the social issues and all of a sudden Santorum's trailing by 15 points because the Reagan Democrats are no longer wedged into voting Republican.
Social conservatives are both the base of the GOP, and a large part of the foot soldiers who volunteer and turn out votes, and swing voters, who might be sympathetic to the Dems on other issues but vote Republican because of God, gays, guns, and abortion.
With Rudy you lose the support of both groups.

I guarantee you the Republicans are going to push McCain for President. He was being touted when Bush was running for his second term. Even THEN they were planning this. I will NOT vote for that creep. He's an idiot.
Giuliani would be good fiscally but he's a social liberal and I mean a MAJOR SOCIAL LIBERAL.
I'd rather vote for Condi! She's good. Commands respect on her OWN MERIT and is a conservative. She is everything Hillary is NOT and wants to be, well except for the color. Liberals are RACISTS at heart. Condi is NO liberal. The more I read about her and see her; the more I like her.

Hillary is a celebrity superstar and only another will beat her. McCain or Guilani.

Im not a fan of McCain either. All im saying is that he is better than the probable alternative, Hillary.
