Top Bush Supporters Set to Launch Anti-Miers Ad Campaign

A 30-second TV ad is set to air tomorrow, Wednesday, that some believe may be as effective at helping stop the Harriett Miers confirmation as the Swift Boat ads were in helping stop John Kerry.

BetterJustice.org, a conservative grass-roots organization, created and funded the hard-hitting anti-Miers (but pro-Bush) ad. The organization's board of directors includes several otherwise staunch Republican stalwarts, such as David Frum and Linda Chavez.

"Miers is no more qualified to sit on the Supreme Court than I am to be a sumo wrestler!" So stated the so very un-sumo-like Ann Coulter.

This isn’t about sinking the nomination—Bush knows how they feel and he isn’t going to budge.

There are other ways to end the nomination than just Bush pulling it back. Bush is putting all the heat he can on the senators to make sure she is confirmed.

Conservative Americans are replying by letting the senate know that it is ok to reject her. If Bush goes to war against conservatives, he will lose. The liberals will always hate him no matter what he does. He is already the most fiscal liberal president ever and they still hate him and accuse him of trying to starve people.

They and the Perpetually Pissed Off around here masquerading as Bush supporters.

Have you ever considered that there might be a valid reason for conservatives to be disappointed with Bush's behavior?

...If you do that, say hello to Justice Alberto Gonzales. I am sure he will be to your liking....

Not even I think GWB would be that... what... stupido? :)

If anything, he would have a second chance to correct a wrong decision, a bad miscalculation. Now, if he did choose AGonzales, let's agree from now, the issue "will not be" how decent, sweet, nice AG is, but rather what a M***on GWB would be to do that. Agree?

Being coy about who all the RINO's in the party are now, are you, Howlin?

No, I'm calling it as I see it.

Conservatives are not lapdogs who go along with everything their "master" tells them to. Many of FR treat GWB like he is the King of the Country. He is not. He is a public servant who has given an oath to defend the constitution and the republic. We do not have to give loyalty oaths to him as a person, remember????

As for your statement - the GOP decided to put up Bob Dole, and you blame conservatives for this????

In 92' you blame conservatives for not being energized about George Bush a/k/a "Read My Lips" and "New World Order"??

Unlike you, I am an American first, Conservative second, and Republican last. So long as you give your unquestioned loyalty to the GOP no matter what it does, the one party system will continue to prevail and things will get worse and worse.

And don't even think about blaming the RATS. The GOP controls all branches and seems as inept as ever.

Many of the Bush supporters on this seem to fail to grasp how momentous an SCOTUS appointment is. In many ways, Bush is appointing someone who will outrank him.

Nominating Justices is NOT an exercise in democracy as per intent of the Founders. And the lunatic fringe of the lunatic fringe has NO say in this matter.

OMG, I can't believe I just read something like that on FR.

The president only gets to pick the nominee - that is it. The senate then confirms or rejects the president's nominee. The 'lunatic fringe' as you call them (as opposed to the boot licking Bushbots) can exercise their ability and rights to lobby the senate to reject her. That is what is occurring here.

Don't portray yourself as speaking for all conservatives. Plenty of us around here are not going off the deep end.

Conservatives support PUBS because they claim to represent our values, if not then conservatives have to withhold support until they do.

Put Roberts' resume and qualifications next to Meirs. That is my answer to you. Roberts' record stood on its own and never came down to "Trust Me" or "He tithes his income".

Second, I don't remember Roberts supporting race-based quotas or demonstrating a complete lack of knowledge of the 14th Amendement.

Ooooppps. Was that a personal attack??? Am I a racist and bigot now???

Did I write "all conservatives"? Geesh, have we come to word games now to defend the president at all costs?

When I read about him now, I picture him drooling and spinning around in the middle of the room.

Well now you know how conservatives have seen him, not to mention those other party hacks over at National Review, for the past 5 years :)

Sadly, there's plenty of RINO's in the party. And just as Zell Miller had to fight against the left turn many members within his party took, many conservatives are fighting against the left turn many within the Republican party are taking.

The definition of stupid is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Why continue to vote for people that campaign as conservatives but then govern as Democrat-Lite? All that does is enable bad behavior and lock yourself eternally into a situation of voting for a guy just because he is a little better than who he is running against.

After the 92 election, Republican candidates realized that they needed to return to conservative values and that led to the 94 house takeover.

You see, sometimes you can take two steps forward by first taking one step back.
