Top Bush Supporters Set to Launch Anti-Miers Ad Campaign

A 30-second TV ad is set to air tomorrow, Wednesday, that some believe may be as effective at helping stop the Harriett Miers confirmation as the Swift Boat ads were in helping stop John Kerry.

BetterJustice.org, a conservative grass-roots organization, created and funded the hard-hitting anti-Miers (but pro-Bush) ad. The organization's board of directors includes several otherwise staunch Republican stalwarts, such as David Frum and Linda Chavez.

"Miers is no more qualified to sit on the Supreme Court than I am to be a sumo wrestler!" So stated the so very un-sumo-like Ann Coulter.

I myself want firefighters to have the highest standards, not the minimum. Do you prefer to be carried out of a fire on someone's back or dragged out by your ankles?

How would you feel going into heart surgery knowing that the doctor is only there because of affirmative action?

You can bet your life on that!

The next nominee, if-God forbid-another vacancy opens up under the watch of Bush, will be an Hispanic.

I'll give you one guess as to who it will be.

Here's a little hint.

It won't be Miguel Estrada or Emilio Garza.

According to the detail provided, there are only 2,265 member votes in the poll. How many 10s of 1000s of members does FR have now?

983, and counting.

Cool. That takes it all the way up to 1/6311354th.

I've never seen you either.

I'm not calling you Nazis, I comparing your unquestioning zeal for Bush to the attitude among those that made good Nazis or KGB agents.

"Bush is good, Bush is pure, Bush can do no wrong, Bush must be supported always, Do not speak out against Bush, Do not think bad thoughts about Bush, Accept everything that Bush does as correct, Support Bush in all his words and deeds, Turning away from Bush is turning towards the Democrats, Rejecting Bush is rejecting goodness, Pledge your devotion to Bush, Love Bush, Worship Bush, etc, etc"

It's just getting pathetic. Miers was a bad choice - and some Bush supporters are taking the criticism of their savior personally.

951 Freepers against the Miers nomination = 1/65237234th of the votes President Bush received in 2004.

And they're all posting on these threads!

Re "destroying" Miers.

You haven't been reading FR for three weeks, have you?

You don't really mean to say that you think that Miers can be destroyed by the comments of some anonymous posters on Free Republic? Come on.

Or reading Ann Coulter's personal remarks? Or Mark Levin's? Or Frum's?

Ann is going to be Ann, her comments are expected to be over the top. Even Miers might see the humor in the "cleaning lady" bit. I've read some of Levin and probably most of the Frum stuff. Frum is rough on the Miers supporters, but if he slandered Miers, I missed it.

Again, Miers already knows that she lacks the conventional qualifications for the job, and it will not "destroy" her to have that pointed out. She probably expects it.

There's a whole bunch of silent conservatives out in the heartland who are watching the effete crusaders escalate their attempts to drive Miers out of the process, to deny her a hearing.

No, this is a perfectly legitimate part of the process of a noisy democracy. First you elect politicians, then you yell at them when they screw up, to convince them to change course. The process seems to be working just fine.

Care to guess who was Alberto's little helper in that particular debacle?

Could it be, SATIN?

"This poster is now calling us Nazis."

Someone questioned my sobriety last night because I spelled something with an e instead of a u.

People on your side of this issue have been pretty uncivil as well.

Seriously, we need answers to these questions. Don't these people realize this is a lifetime appointment and cannot be undone or corrected?

Or, is it _ "I Trust, I Trust, I Trust" ???????

"No hearing is going to change her lack of Constitutional or Judicial experience and the fact that she has no conservative credentials."

Again..legally she does not have to have any "credentials". The Constitution does not explicitly establish any qualifications for Justices of the Supreme Court.

The hope that the anti-Miers crowd had was that they might be able to get her to withdraw by creating a smear champaign through the pundits. Since that hasn't worked they think they can sway the Senators by raising public opinion in their favor through TV ads.

I certainly hope they are more honest and stay away from the trash punditry that has been flying around or it will just further embarrass the conservative movement.

The only embarassment of the conservative movement is a republican president picking an affirmative action close friend of his over far more qualified and experienced jurists with a clear concept of the constitution.

who would have to find a way to be against a smart black woman days after Rosa Parks died - a liberal nightmare)

Not a problem for them. Dems don't consider conservative women actual women or conservative blacks actual blacks -- and they don't mind saying so.

President Bush has outsmarted the democrats for 5 years, let the professionals do their job.

You don't outsmart an adversary by implementing their agenda.

Unless you have had a divine revelation there is no way you can truthfully make the claim that Miers = Souter. And I don't consider the ignorance of the Antis to be divine.
