GAY PUBLICATION 'OUTS' ANCHORS
Show Biz Data ^

Posted on 10/26/2005 10:23:55 AM PDT by LesbianThespianGymnasticMidget

The gay-oriented Houston Voice has "outed" CNN's Anderson Cooper and Fox News Channel's Shepard Smith, charging that they "choose to hide and deceive -- and to protect their incomes and images -- at the expense of contributing important weight and star power to the gay civil rights movement." Managing Editor Kevin Naff claims in an editorial appearing in the current edition of the Voice that Smith once tried to pick him up in a gay piano bar in New York City and that Cooper dodged a question about his sexual orientation in a recent New York magazine interview by saying, ""The whole thing about being a reporter is that you're supposed to be an observer and to be able to adapt with any group you're in ... and I don't want to do anything that threatens that." Commented Naff: "Does he believe that female and African-American reporters lack credibility to cover stories since their minority status is showing?"

I thought he had been married. Not that that proves anything, but if he really were gay, they would have outed him before now. Like during ratings week or during the last election. ADD, probably yes. GAY?

I didn't know that Gloria Vanderbilt was his mother. She had four sons, one of whom committed suicide. I remember seeing pictures of their bedrooms in some decorating magazine 20 years ago. I thought all her sons were much older.

What does the "G Block" stand for?

My son thinks that segments of a broadcast are named alphabetically, so the "G" block is the seventh segment.

If Shep is or isn't, I don't really give a rat's behind. I suspect the source's motives, however, and I don't much care for their tactics. I'm wondering if this is nothing more than an attempt to smear a known conservative, and include a (known?) gay anchor to try to give their assertion credibility.

They actually explained it on FNC once. That's exactly the reason...the segments are internally designated "A", "B", and so on.

Stealth tactic to undermine Fox News' base. They can't attack them directly because FNC is more accurate than CBS, etc., so an attack against the most popular anchor with something they think will offend his base is the next best thing.

We didn't make it all the way through the NY Observer yesterday -- it was so big! and so pink! Oh, how many times have we said that today already -- so we missed the all-important Manhattan Transfers section. Had we paid proper attention, we would have learned the important news that Fox News anchor Shepard Smith recently closed on a third-floor $1.87 mil loft on 13th between 5th and 6th Avenues.

This is dangerously close to designer Isaac Mizrahi's West Village apartment, we must point out. What happens if ol' Sheppie and Isaac -- who is certainly the anti-Shep -- meet one dark summer night on those cruisy streets? Will there be a massive fusion reaction as good and evil meet -- sort of like the one at the end of Spiderman 2? Will we all die?

Thinking about it, there was something, uh, "different" about the way he took that fall during Rita . . .

If the alphabet networks and the Communist News Network start the drumbeat on the story, you'll definitely be right.

Gloria was born in 1924.

"Vanderbilt married Hollywood agent Pasquale DiCicco ("Pat" DiCicco) in 1941; they divorced in 1945. Her second marriage, to conductor Leopold Stokowski on April 21, 1945 produced two sons, Leopold Stanislaus Stokowski (born 1950) and Christopher Stokowski (born 1955); they divorced in October 1955. Her third marriage took place on August 28, 1956 to director Sidney Lumet; they divorced in August 1963. Her final marriage to author Wyatt Emory Cooper took place on 1964, ; they had two sons, Carter Vanderbilt Cooper (1965-1988), and newsman Anderson Cooper (born 1967)".

Carter is deceased.

I have always wondered about Shep after I saw some dude on his show wanting the Boy Scouts to allow gay Scout masters several years back when that debate was going on. Shep seemed sympathetic and told him good luck at the end of the interview. Prior to that, I had always wondered if he was gay, and that interview sealed my opinion.

There's alot of comments of Shep's "j-low or j-blow" comment. Gays are notorious for celebrity gossip, and in J-Low's early days that was the rumor about her in NY.

Then again, maybe I am wrong and he's straight, but I doubt it.

I'm sorry but one of my wife's friend's husband (I know, I know) used to hang out with Shep before he, the friend's husband, got married.

I saw an episode of Law & Order: SVU on USA Network which focused on a murder that, at first glance, didn't seem to have any leads - a totally senseless situation in which a happily married and respected man was found murdered. Detective Odafin "Fin" Tutuola (played by Ice-T) had a theory that surprised everyone in the SVU office: the murder victim was on the Down Low. This theory was true and led to the case being solved.

I had never heard of the term "Down Low", in this context, before I saw that episode. I asked several friends of mine, who happen to be black, if they were familiar with it and they confirmed it to be common slang these days in their old neighborhoods. I just now ran a Google search on the term and found more information than I really needed to know.

_______________________________________________________________

What is the "Down Low" or "DL"?

Men who discreetly have sex with other men while in sexual relationships with women are said to be on the "down low" (or "dl" for short). Often these men do not consider themselves gay or bisexual and their female partners are not aware that they have sex with other men, thus the term "down low" or "in hiding".

How is the down low different from being closeted?

At it's core a man on the down low is no different than a closeted man. However, the high numbers of HIV cases within the African-American community, especially among straight black women, has brought attention to this phenomenon. A growing number of people feel that men on the down low who have unprotected sex with other men pose a health risk to their girlfriends or wives. Since men on the dl do not consider themselves gay or bisexual, they feel no need to disclose their activities.

I don't mean to imply that your friend or Shep is a homosexual. I really don't care. I was surprised when I first heard of this terminology on a TV show and wondered if any other FReepers had seen that episode or were familiar with the terminology.

What does the "G Block" stand for?

I have no idea.

The G Spot, however, is a different story. (wink wink nudge nudge say no more)

Some TV newscasts are laid out in blocks from A to whatever. G block is a segment of the broadcast, nothing more.

Shepard Smith is not gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I'm hesitate to click on your link. Maybe you can tell me about it. Usually, I just use Google Images to get pics such as that.

Now, I'm curious, yes.... But not THAT curious... ;-)
