That Slate article lays waste to the whole bar assocciation and head-of-law-firm thing.
Shorn of the merits of these non-qualifications, Miers is even more nakely a Texas crony.
Whoops, she's broken another glass ceiling there. She's a Good Ol' Boy.
Isn't that just super?

I suggest to save their fingers, why not just point Miers moonbots to this handy shorthand, instead of wasting their time typing and wasting our time reading the same tired 'arguments?'
1) She has real world experience, you Elitist!
2) You just hate women, you Sexist!
3) You just never liked the President, you Bush-Hater!
4) THIS Republican President Bush has never appointed a non-conservative to the SCOTUS as far as you know, so trust Bush, you Traitor!
5) You never supported Bush anyway, you Third Party Freak!
6) You never supported Bush anyway, You Buchananite Buckethead!
7) You never supported Bush anyway, You Tancredoite Nutjob!
8) You never supported Bush anyway, You Border Controlling Racist!
9) Let her have her say in the hearings instead of using her actual words against her, you dumb Dittohead, you!
10) You didn't fight Ginsburg like this, roll over now, too!
11) You're only helping the Democrats, you closet liberal!
12) You're only a small group according to the polls, we're the large group, so shut up!
13) We SAID she was an Evangelical--what more do you want, you nit-picking God-hater!?!?
14) Mike Brown likes her, and anyone who doesn't is a leftist tool!
15) But Bush has promised [insert promise of future bone, e.g., border control, budgetary restraint, etc., here] out to the conservatives, can't they give up the most important branch of the government to his most favoritest pal?
16) She can bowl, dammit!
So now, if there is a post by a Miers skeptic, say, where they post Miers' actual words and this strikes the moonbots' as grounds for character assassination or some other similar form of 'argument,' they just type in the numbers as if they were hangin' at the Automat. Here's an example of how this would work:
LibertarianInExile: In two speeches, Ms. Miers used the usual pro-choice code words about abortion, and she used Janet Reno and Justice Ginsburg as examples of female success stories!
Miers fan: #1! #2! #9! #3! #5!
With the ad hominem attacks all properly classified this way, the ubiquitous Miers threads and threadjackings will probably not be as NEARLY distracting from the usual FR experience, wherein we make fun of stupid Democrat tricks and all act like we're conservatives!

Thanks to Cboldt for the idea.

"Well, there is mediocrity, and then there are such things as outstanding mediocrity and mediocre mediocrity, too. Further, we ought to consider that somebody brilliant could indeed jump out of the judicial gown and desolate the whole country - one never knows what to expect of them. Thus a plodding mediocrity is a much safer choice. Besides, the very existence and presence of a mediocrity as a reference point gives a warm and pleasant feeling of superiority to all wannabe geniuses."
Don't know whether to laugh of cry.

Plus, the year Ms. Miers was elected, the powers-that-be in the State Bar decided it was time for a woman president and chose two women as the candidates.

The last person to withdraw nomination because of lack of support from the president's own party was Douglas Ginsburg. That nomination wrought Anthony Kennedy.
Thanks a whole bunch.

The Ginsburg nomination was withdrawn for the same reason that Tower went down in flames during Bush 41, and that Chavez was pulled by Bush 43, i.e. the administration buckled to pressure.
It had nothing to do with opposition from the right.

Try both at the same time - or neither, for it was but a statement of a sad but profound truth.

Giorgio Boschetto, The Godfather, took bad advice from his normally trustworthy Consigliere, Karl Rove. He should have known not to show too much "respect" to Don Barzini, aka Harry Reid of Nevada.
Here's hoping they have a "sit down" with the Nevada Senator in Lake Tahoe.

Beyond this Miers thing. The Bush presidency is coming unraveled. Prior to Miers his position was precarious, now it it in near free fall. His arrogance has finally caught up with him. His backing for the Iraq war will be the next to go.SHAZAAM!!! "Fear not! Help has arrived! The grownups have taken charge!"
"IRRRRRVINGGGGG!"

You're right.
Before the Bork rave the only time I had heard or seen his name mentioned-in relation to a possible Supreme Court vacancy-was in a brief article posted on Slate.

Miers fan: #1! #2! #9! #3! #5!
That list is a riot.
Keep it handy, just in case. But I'm hoping 'I' do the right thing with the next nominee so we don't have a repeat.
