I think people give far too much credence to Rove importance to Bush. Bush is done!

Rove is being kept to reward him for good work and to work for the party!

He means nothing to Bush and everything to the party. it is what he does. He get's people elected by navigating the political rapids. The only other job remaining for him is the library and legacy, which he can do from the outside.

He is now engaged in planing for 06,08, and Bush will not fall down because he may be gone. He has other advisors for day to day office stuff.

Did you miss Reagan's other failed nominee, Professor Ginsberg, who withdrew over the controversy when he admitted to smoking pot with his law students at some point in his career? I think Anthony Kennedy was the successful nominee for that slot.

That site did, as well as me.

I guess you and I have been arguing from a different direction then...

I don't get this "stealth" business...this is something I see you and others post about, but I never have considered that...and I guess that makes me clueless...but I just didn't.

If THAT is the aspect of this that bothers you the most...then I can't critisize or emphathize...because I just never saw this through that prism.

Yup, I was right in pegging you as a Libertarian.

You are no Republican.

(Neither am I)

I'm not so sure. I have been against Miers from day one and I am a staff member at a Southern Evangelical church. I believe that many of the "anti-Miers" group were EChristians.

Well, it was withdrawn almost before you could blink.

At any rate, if this is the big payoff from being a Supreme Court fanboy, I really need to find a new hobby, maybe take up with an irreputable woman or something...

You're quite right about Hughes. She really ought to be the Press Secretary. I can tell you as a former reporter/shark in the big city, she commands respect and her politcal instincts are second to none.

I really belive Miers was a sacrificial lamb by designer. The head fake really has confused the left about who she was and why they opposed her. The conservative base actually has gained strength from this manuever and the dimwit msm doesn't see that the CIA leak story is now riding in the backseat. Oh...they're leading with...Chaos in the administration, but when the smoke clears, W will hand their #$$&& to them.

"You never have been able to get it through your head you are not the only conservative."

Huh??? There are plenty of conservatives to varying degrees. NO kidding.

"We have secular, Catholic, and Evengelical conservatives"

Nooooo...I had no idea. I guess all the various religious and nonreligious conservatives I worked with while at university as well as those of every conceivable race and ethnic group off and on in the 20 some years since, were but an optical allusion. I'm just discovering there are Black, American Indian, Indian American and Asian conservatives too. When I referenced the writings of Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell in my college Sociology courses, I thought they were white, until now. Thanks for learnin' me. /sarcasm

There's also Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and atheist conservatives and people of all nationalities and races not just in this country but 'round the world.

"That anger towards liberal values remains, but I don't think the unity is there now."

GW, and not the Democratic opposition, has been President for 5 years. One could predict the differences among conservatives would become more apparent and increasingly more of an issue as Republicans retained power.

" Just read the number of dissensions, and you will start to see the picture."

Oh, I get the picture and always have. And it's very obvious on FR, something I noticed almost from the moment I first arrived. I've probably spent more time reading FR than you have and thus am well aware of the past and current dissension, tension and disagreement on the forum.

You apparently fail to understand that Reagan conservatives are the largest, strongest and most prominent part of the conservative base and will probably be so for years to come.

The base consists of a reliable voting block. They are as you people fondly refer to us, the Bush Bots and the people around them, IE: Family and friends...Business associates, plus a huge majority of long time republicans who are business owners, various employers, managers and the like, in addition to some welders, riggers and true blue American types who without fail, vote straight ticket "R's", and do it every-time.

That is me! Broken glass Republican since Nixon.

I am afraid that some think they are the base by voting a couple times, or once and demanding attention. That is not the true base. They are what is call activists. They cannot be depended on and they never are. But they sure can cause a lot of trouble, because other people think they are the base.

Rush is part of the true base but he has been infected by the beltway, he and I are exactly the same age, started voting at the same time for the same party.....Well, you get the picture.

Of all the pundits and commentators on the planet, I can tell you that he is part of the base and he was upset with the nomination, but he was willing to wait for the hearings and admitted today that he was not happy about the withdrawal and yet felt it to be the best thing. Then after some callers he got defensive and defended a indefensible position that a ripped up coalition was a good thing.

He based that on some Reagan history references, but he fails to see that things were much different then. And the way it went down was not the way I recall it. We did not have the House or the Senate, and the party controlled only a few Governorships. We pulled a political play that they are still scratching their heads over, and because it was so successful and so impossible, history writers have hidden what we actually did.

We built this party from the grass roots up, starting with Nixon. We listened to William Buckley and we dreamed. And we dreamed. And we dreamed...............

Our dreams finally came true!

Now we have a situation......

Either I relent and allow people who I feel are bulls in the china shop to control the agenda, people who tried to overcome the Florida justice department by political fiat for a single brain damaged girl, or I withdraw my support and stay home for 06, and 08 and let the chips fall where they may, hoping to pick up the pieces and start over.

Then there is the better option of allowing the coalition to shift left, just a litlle bit, to pick up millions of disaffected Democrats at the right time, (exactly what we did with Reagan) and reform the coalition by cutting lose the aggravations. Like we did with Buchannon and others in the past.

Let me see..........What are we gonna do.......?????

Does that answer all your concerns?

WOW...vanity thread huh????

Looks like a good one...but I am too tired tonight...and from the looks of the headlines...it is possible that Libby will be indicted tomorrow....

AND, the prosecutor is going to do a really CLASSY thing, according to MSNBC....he is going to indict Libby tomorrow...but extend the GJ...so he can keep investigating Rove...and keep investigating...and keep holding this over the head of Rove, Bush and Cheney...

For as long as he can!!! Isn't America's legal system great!!!

Your instincts are good.

Thank you for your kind response.

There is much to watch in the next few weeks. Dems saying a new candidate may not be considered until after the Holidays.. translated.. next year. The time for pressing for Emergency mandatory Congressional sessions is now. Next year, the excuse will be, time off for Senatorial campaigns... there are 36 Republican seats up next year. Their time is up.. The Miers thing was played too long. IMO. W must force the Senate to work. O'Connors seat must be filled and the Illegal Immigration issue must be debated before the '06 campaign. By '08 our sovereign voice will be gone. We must push this...

Nope......

Not for me...

I took a look, unfortunately. They will be there in 08 for sure tho......

There will be a lot of angry conservatives, if I am right about my assertions.

But I won't be there, unless the RNC throws me out, and that ain't gonna happen. They owe me too much.....:-)

No, I don't consider myself a right wing conservative. I am too big government for that and I detest loading the court with conservatives, as much as I would a liberal. Those terms just do not belong there. I want someone who rules with care and rules from interpreting our Constitution and precedent without ideology or a desire to affect the past, the future or go back to horse and buggies. Roberts seemed OK, but I'm gonna be watching, even though I trust Bush. he and I are on the same page.

I helped build this sucka called the RNC, and I will be here till death comes a knockin....
