Kinda makes me wonder if these same people think God appointed

Bill Clinton president. In this case, I think they would prefer to use the word annointed ... LOL

OK, so if you mean it in that sense, then it tells us nothing about Bush himself. It doesn't confer any obligation on us to respect him any more than Clinton or Carter.

Right. But we respect him more as a person because he is living for Christ, and honoring God with his life.

Those of us who share his faith, understand where it comes from, and see it manifest in his life. He is our brother, and we honor him and pray for him as such, and know that God gave us a righteous leader for this time in history (perhaps the last one was to teach us a lesson and get us involved in the political process.....we don't know the mind of God).

That's why he doesn't have to dot every i of our political wishes (which he doesn't, btw) to maintain our respect. Big picture.

This sentence represents two misconceptions about this issue that I see a lot of. Firstly, this isn't about "wishes". Running a government isn't like decorating a house, where personal tastes come into play. It's about actually doing the right thing to prevent us from sliding into a modern serfdom, where overbearing government controls nearly all aspects of our lives. Either he's committed to avoiding that result, or he isn't. Everything else is just details.

Secondly, his actions are not merely insufficient; they actually take us the wrong way. So it's not a question of patience, because patience at least means being willing to take things in the right direction, even if at a slow pace. But his runaway expansion of government and hostility to border security have taken us in the wrong direction.

It's still about your priorities, and your political views, inquest.

In my priorities, changing the moral climate of this nation, and moving us away from being a culture of death are the domestic priority. Internationally, keeping us safe from terrorists, building up the military and respecting them, and using them wisely to protect us from harm, are my priorities.

And in both those areas, his record is stellar.

If we're all dead at the hands of our enemies, there are no details to attend to. The spending for me is secondary (though disturbing). On the subject of the borders, I am dissatisfied with what has been done to secure them, but I strongly disagree with those who say he's done nothing at all. That's just not true. Not enough? That's true.

... his runaway expansion of government ...

... an unprecedented spending spree. There is no telling how much damage it would have done to our economy if they had failed to get the tax cuts through.

On the subject of the borders, I am dissatisfied with what has been done to secure them, but I strongly disagree with those who say he's done nothing at all.

He's done worse than nothing. He has been in as active opposition to border security as he could possibly be without completely giving the game away to every casual observer. His amnesty proposals have encouraged further illegal immigration, putting more of a strain on the already overstretched Border Patrol. He came down on the side of those in Congress who were against including border security provisions in the 9/11 bill, even though by doing so, it allowed the controversy to fester, prolonging the passage of the bill which he said was so important to get passed. Though Congress finally did pass the bill with the border security supplements, his next budget proposal blotted out funding for the very agents that Congress had authorized in that bill. And his smearing of the Minutemen as "vigilantes" was just icing on the cake.

And all this was done against the backdrop of massive public opinion in favor of good border security. And in most cases, neither he nor his supporters could bring themselves to face the public and give any strong reasons for why he's acting this way. What am I supposed to conclude from all this?

..One thing I'm nervous about (other than the possibility of him caving) is that he'll nominate someone whose chief qualification will be that the Dems don't like him, but on whom there will still be little publicly available information...

Well... very exciting the whole situation, isn't it? :). As to caving? - can he really be that dumb? :) - Let's hope not. As to Muigel Strada?... hmmm... who knows!... there is not question, for whatever reason, he wants to a Hispanic on the court, ant this guy would fit the bill. Janice Brown?... what a temptation, woman, conservative, went trough the grinder already and black! but, the Rats would absolutely take her as "dare," and I keep thinking that Bush will do whatever he can to avoid a super-big fight (nuclear option) that she would cause. I am beginning to feel he would go with someone like Samuel Alito, as I understand it he has the credentials, but he is not so radio-active as Brown for instance....

Well, it's all an enigma at this point! :) but again, he/she could be a surprise... but I believe he is going to impress us conservatives. I do hope so, and why not?... He doesn't strike me as the kind who wants to hurt himsefl ala suicide-bomber. How lucky he is to have a second chance! Can't wait to find out :) - Take care

"Right. But we respect him more as a person because he is living for Christ, and honoring God with his life."

Who Bush? The guy who allowed the NEA budget be increased? And this Miers pick? Both are related. Anyone who increases 'Piss Christ' funding doesn't really understand a pro-life Christian.

Not the thread for an immigration discussion, inquest.

Thanks for the polite conversation.

Your lack of knowledge of the changes made in NEA make conversation about it worthless.

I don't agree with the funding, but the foulness of what is funded has been stopped.

And what Miers has to do with that, only you know.

Been on this thread too long, and don't want to start anew with someone else.

Good day, all. Bush is a fantastic leader and a good, good man, placed in authority by God.

No idle talk on an Internet forum changes the fundamental facts of who this man is, and what he has accomplished.

When was it stopped? Please give me a date of when it was stopped. I hope you are correct.

"And what Miers has to do with that, only you know."

If you are correct, then nothing. But if the Corpus Christi play is an example of the lewdness being stopped, then everything.

"Been on this thread too long, and don't want to start anew with someone else."

"Good day, all. Bush is a fantastic leader and a good, good man, placed in authority by God."

What news report did I miss about the lewdness being stopped?

"No idle talk on an Internet forum changes the fundamental facts of who this man is, and what he has accomplished."

No doubt, Bush accomplished a lot. Yeah, I guess I should stop with the 'idle chat on the internet' and watch sports? Or do you suggest I start playing chess again? Gee, I thought REVEALING things through the internet was a good thing, and sharing viewpoints. Guess I was wrong.

There were restrictions place on the funding when it was passed. It's been at least three years......don't know the exact date, but there was a thread on it here at the time.

As for the 'idle chat' thing, I didn't mean to imply that we shouldn't discuss things here.......obviously, I'm here doing just that.

It's just that our discussion of things is just that........discussion. It's the President who has the weight of getting things done on his shoulders, and is doing an incredible job of it, IMO.

Now seriously.........I have been off and on this thread for several days, and would like to leave it.....

Thanks.

List, if you don't mind, just how his record is stellar in this area? Under Bush's watch, Planned Parenthood and the National Endowment for the Arts have received the largest budget distribution increases in their history. Abortion is every bit as legal as it was under Clinton. There is no amendment banning gay marriage. And based on her recently revealed comments, his last nominee for the supreme court was a flaming liberal.

These are the facts of the Bush presidency when it comes to domestic issues.

Not the thread for an immigration discussion, inquest.

If the discussion hinges on the President's general trustworthiness, then all aspects of his policy potentially come into play, but particularly the actions on his part that seriously call into question his commitment to doing the right thing.

See above post. I'm off this thread.

Please don't continue to ping me. If the discussion comes up on an appropriate thread, I am more than happy to dialogue with you, but not here and now.

Thanks.

"And based on her recently revealed comments, his last nominee for the supreme court was a flaming liberal."

She certainly sounded like a flaming lib at times. And then Team Bush started sliming conservatives of being bigoted against women and all that BS. If it were Ann Coulter, I'd not only support her, I'd pin up a poster of Coulter in a black robe.

Good point. I plan on getting with you on that in the morning. I need to check on recent NEA history I guess, since this guy actually claims that the NEA cleaned up its act. Never heard that one before. FRegards....
