Do you contend that Miers' critics forced her to withdraw from consideration? What is your proof?
Miers voluntarily withdrew because it was right and honorable thing to do. The concern voiced by conservatives likely had a big part in that voluntary decision but it did not preempt or force it.
This is how participatory government should work.
