Common sense should tell people these guest-worker plans are unworkable. Without rigorous enforcement of the immigration laws, there's no reason for employers to comply with guest-worker rules. Why would an employer document a worker if there's no penalty for not doing so, and if the worker is on the books, the employer has to pay social security taxes, minimum wage, and worker comp?

I say, let them first prove they are willing to deport the illegals and protect the border. There's nothing wrong with immigration itself, but letting the lawbreakers win is a slap in the face of everyone else who has played by the rules. I wouldn't mind if they let more people legally immigrate to the US, but simply making all the illegals legal with a stroke of the pen is a grave injustice!

I wouldn't, either. Play by the rules, pay your fair share, be prepared to work and join the dominant culture, and you can come here--legally.
