Looks like McCain is on board for Alito.

I've said for months now that after crafting the "Great Compromise of 2005" he will now lead the charge toward the constiutional option to make amends with the GOP base in preperation for his 2008 run.

...re: Specter & Alito relationship....

I believe they both work/or worked in Philly legal circles for years. Specter might not like his abortion stance, but it'll be difficult to stall a local. These Senators take pride in their "own" SC nominees. At any rate, their relationship is worth exploring. I suspect it is part of W's strategery.

Problem is McCain (and the other NE repubbie senators.

House ("Congress") is fairly reasonable. Too expensive, not cutting enough dollars, but better than the d**m repubbie senators.

Expect her to remain as quite as possible while letting others on the left do the screaming.

Alito was the sole dissenter in the 3rd circuit's decision on Planned Parenthood v. Casey

Awesome.

Good pick! Now it's time to have a good old fashioned political brawl with Schumer, Leahy, Kennedy, Biden, Reid, Ralph Neas and moveon.org. GO FOR IT!

But, the Court he presently serves on is physically located in Philadelphia. That's why Chiller said that Alito "lives and works in Specter's backyard".

And I still don't think that's going to make any difference. Specter has been quite vocal about his stance on justices who might overturn Roe.

Just heard on the news that Senator Reid "strenuously objects" to this nomination. Sounds like Alito is a good man.

If Bush felt the heat hopefully they will as well. We need to make them worry more about the voters in their home state than what Maureen Dowd writes about them.

It's gonna be fun to listen to Hugh Hewitt explain how Miers removing herself was so wrong when Alito is the pick now.

That battle is over. You won so get over it. It's time to talk about putting pressure on Senate Republicans to do whatever it takes to confirm.

"IMHO, Bush appointed Miers because he thought he couldn't get Alito through. Right or wrong, we'll find out. "

I think he was looking for a woman and took orders from Laura and Andy.

He knows he can't be on the wrong side of this if he wants any hope in 2008.

You're rather silly this morning aren't you? You also didn't answer my question? Do you actually believe that religion contains no "views or philosophy" or have any influence on what legal philosophy one is attracted to? By the way, Alito is religious and I'm sure it has an influence on what legal philosophy he's attracted to. If you can't respond intelligently, silence is the best option.

"Typical government lawyer. No private practice experience? I'm not impressed."

I want to know where this nominee stands on lottery commissions. Horrible choice.

The name Sam is usually short for the male given name 'Samuel', or the female given name 'Samantha'. Samuel comes from a Hebrew word which means "name of God" or "heard by God". Other variations of the name include 'Samuelson', 'Samson', and 'Samwise'.

Actually, we only need one more (besides Graham)....two will get us to 50.

Dewine

DeWine discusses the agreement in a speech from the floor of the Senate on June 9, 2005. Generally affirming that the nuclear option is still on the table, and that what constitutes "extraordinary" has been circumscribed by at least the votes on Pryor, Brown and Owen.

That's an added benefit, isn't it? I hope Wilson is eventually discredited. Every time I see that guy I get infuriated!

Every wonder why Roberts had a "Prime Time" media introduction to the country, but Miers didn't, and now neither does Alito?
