As long as the democrats are not coming out and saying: "I like this nominee, I think it is a good choice", then the President made a very good choice.

Just turned the news on a few minutes ago. I've heard some about him, but not a lot. Is the concensus of people who know about him that he is considered to be a strict constructionist consevative Judge?

They've been a little cocky the last couple of weeks. They needed to get smacked around a bit.

I think being the kid of a federal judge must be like being a preacher's kid. Bush didn't even get a titter with the librarian joke did he. They better stop calling him Scalito because it's going to cause massive confusion if they don't.

Now. My point of posting is, he made his remarks off the cuff, it looked like to me, from the oval office, next to the president, and sounded better than the president did. I would say butter wouldn't melt in Judge Alito's mouth. I like that.

I agree. I would prefer someone with "real world" experience but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

We need to start reminding the 7 Rinos early and often that we have them on a short leash, (we need a couple of quick tugs on it this morning to remind them just how short)

Thank God the President nominated someone whose qualifications he didn't have to stretch. No "woman lawyer" this or "first member" of that.

Alito, whoa-oh-oh-oh
He's for the money, he's for the show
Alito's waitin' for the go
Alito, whoa-oh-oh-oh
He said one more job ought to get it
One last shot 'fore we quit it
One more for the road

No, you are wrong. After Rehnquist died Roberts was shifted to his seat. The successor to O'Connor's seat again became open. Alito has now been chosen to fill it. O'Connor will step down from the court as soon as he has been confirmed. Alito is replacing O'Connor.

That's reality, and it has nothing to do with either conservatives, liberals or the moonpeople.

As a Catholic, I can say I'm disappointed this appointee is not an Evangelical Christian. We Catholics have Scalia, Thomas, and (hopefully)Roberts to be proud of, to look to as model Catholics/citizens. The Evangelicals should have somebody up there too. After the last presidential election where real Catholics refused to vote for Kerry, there has been a backlash against Catholics from many sides, but not from our Evangelical brothers and sisters.

We Catholics have been fighting along side the Evangelicals since the late 80's in the pro-life movement. We need to stay strong and united. It's time to give one of our Evangelical friends the nod. Let's hope Ginsburg or Stevens retires soon and President Bush can nominate a real Fundamental, Bible Believing Christian.
