This is ugly. I actually doubt that we're even hearing the worst of it this time. Unlike previous events (Rodney King Riots, Katrina, the Tsunami) the MSM probably isn't giving us all of the news here because it would make their darling French allies look bad. But the truth is, this MUST be a wakeup call for all of Europe. If they don't take this seriously and do something immediately it will be remembered as the calm before the real storm of Muslim rage. There will be civil war throughout Europe within a generation if they don't get this problem under control and begin assimilating this new population. Unfortunately for us all, it's probably too late. The sad reality of fail Left Wing policies.

Do you really think this "new population" really wants to "assimilate"?

The unrest has laid bare discontent simmering in suburbs and among immigrant families who feel trapped by poverty, unemployment, and poor education.

Okay, okay! I agree. I made the "within a generation" crack because I thought it would be over-reacting to say "all of Europe" would go up in flames NOW. Still, your point is well taken. It could happen much sooner. I don't think that this is a continent-wide civil war (yet), but it may be the opening shot.

I just love (sarc) when the media offers excuses for criminal behavior! Of course, it's always the same, always,,poor, disenfranchised, alienated,,blah blah blah blah!

Their misery is factual but rioting doesn't make it any better. Are there any brain cells left in France at all?

To paraphrase Ronald Reagan -
"When your neighbors car gets torched, it's "youthful indiscretions"
When your car gets torched, it's lawless thuggishness.

I hate to gloat, but... no, wait, I love to gloat: This couldn't be happening to a more deserving country.

I'm sorry, but... no, wait, I'm not sorry: In this case, bad news is good news.

So, what would be your (final) solution to this problem?

I don't know what France is to do. They have really painted themselves into a corner here.

Jamey Keaten uses all the pathetic AP tricks to avoid saying what is at the root of the problem.

"Groups of youths"

"teens apparently angered by a police crackdown on drug trafficking in their neighborhood"

"very numerous small and highly mobile groups,"

"Many of the riotous youths are the French-born children of immigrant parents. The unrest has laid bare discontent simmering in suburbs and among immigrant families who feel trapped by poverty, unemployment, and poor education."

So, it's just a bunch of mistreated teens who are responsible for the riots. The word "immigrant" is used twice, buried in the middle of the story. The words "Arab," "African," and "Muslim" never appear.

All the news, all the time, that's AP.

teens apparently angered by a police crackdown on drug trafficking in their neighborhood set fire to five cars,

Criminals, angered by a police crackdown on crime, committed even worse crimes.

It's time to trade in the rubber bullets and pepper spray for lead bullets and Willie Pete.

There are three theoretical possibilities:

1) Some amicable solution that ends the violence and allows life to continue as before. Probability: negligible.

2) France responds with enough force to end this riot and to deter future ones. Probability: Very unlikely.

3) France "pulls out" of the Islamic neighborhoods, creating their own little Gaza strip surrounding their capital. Life continues as France-under-siege. Probability: Almost certain.
