Paris Riots Hit Night 10

ACHERES, France — Riots that started in Paris' lower-class suburbs and resulted in 250 arrests of predominantly Muslim youths Saturday moved into the capital of France early Sunday morning.

By 1 a.m., a spokesman for the national police reported 13 vehicles torched in the capital, and 607 vehicles burnt overall during the 10th straight night of rioting. Totals are expected to rise by morning.

The violence — originally concentrated in neighborhoods northeast of Paris with large immigrant populations — is forcing France (search) to confront anger long-simmering in its suburbs, where many Africans and their French-born children live on society's margins, struggling with unemployment, poor housing, racial discrimination, crime and a lack of opportunity.

Youths armed with gasoline bombs lit vehicles, a nursery school and other targets on fire as they made their way through higher-class towns and to the capital.

In quiet Acheres, on the edge of the St. Germain forest west of the capital, arsonists burned a nursery school, where part of the roof caved in, and about a dozen cars in four attacks over an hour that the mayor said seemed "perfectly organized."

Children's photos clung to the blackened walls, and melted plastic toys littered the floor. Residents gathered at the school gate demanded that the army be deployed or suggested that citizens band together to protect their neighborhoods.

Mayor Alain Outreman (search) tried to cool tempers.

"We are not going to start militias," he said. "You would have to be everywhere."

In one particularly malevolent attack, youths in the eastern Paris suburb of Meaux (search) prevented paramedics from evacuating a sick person from a housing project. They pelted rescuers with rocks, then torched the awaiting ambulance, an Interior Ministry official said.

You are correct. The real men, the tough Euro men were mostly killed off in those wars, leaving the pussified, cowardly euro metro-sexual male as role models!!

ANTI-Euroweenie, Anti-Frog, Anti-Liberal Sarcasm Torpedo ARMED. FIRE!!

Don't worry. John Kerry (Pussy-MA), the haughty, French-looking candidate from Massachusetts, who, by the way, served in Viet Nam, and won three--THREE!!--Purple Hearts, will ride to the rescue.

"where did they get a flamethrower? EBAY?"

Just out of curiosity...there are 95 entries on Ebay for flamethrower. At least half appear to be toys.

"Riots that started in Paris' lower-class suburbs and resulted in 250 arrests of predominantly Muslim youths Saturday moved into the capital of France early Sunday morning."

This is terrorism and nothing else. This nonsensical excuse about "poverty and despair" being the reason for the destruction in Paris is just the cover the media give them, similar to how they refer to terrorists in Iraq as "militants".

Does the "vehicles burnt" scorecard strike anyone as a little odd???

Anti-Frog Sarcasm Torpedo ARMED. FIRE!!

Not really. In fact we should applaud this goodwill gesture by the peace-loving peoples of France. Recall that Al Gore (who by the way *REALLY* won the 2000 election before the Supreme Court stole it for Bush) said in his seminal Earth in the Balance that the internal combustion engine was a greater threat to the survival of humanity than nuclear weapons.
So the French are merely practicing that enlightened European unilateral disarmament.

Full Disclosure: The term "seminal" seems more appropriate for Clinton than Gore, n'est-ce pas?

I know it's not very Christian of me, but I am sooooooo enjoying this right now...:-)

I'm not. It's like watching your @$$h0le neighbor's house burning down. You can't stand the guy, but you wouldn't wish it upon him.

"this is not terrorism, it's an insurrection"

Call it what you will, it's got a whole nation terrified.

Those were people in turmoil for whatever reason - their underlying motivation, right or wrong, was survival.

They weren't the muslims seeking to take over at all costs, to kill, rape and maim for the sake of their religious beliefs. That's a totally different kind of scenario. Muslims will DIE, while killing you, for what they believe in. Those souls in Los Angeles, in New Orleans would not choose to die on purpose.

"Take these three together and you have a Europe that is incapable of direct, effective action."

You're talking about European governments, not what lies in the peoples' hearts. Minds can be manipulated for awhile, but intuition, instinct and the will to survive lies in the heart. When 'the people' are threatened as they are now, instinct and logic will surface and take control. If there were another 9/11 type attack in America, I believe you'd see PC get flushed down the toilet faster than yesterday's dinner.

PC may look like a 'King' with firm control in the West, but it's a 'king' whose reign is almost over. That's why the media and the libs fight so viciously to maintain it. It's hold on people is a superfluous one, and it will slip like a greased glove when the people finally realize they've been duped and their very existence is at stake. I think the end of PC is around the corner and coming fast. It's an insurrection or major terror attack away from being extinquished. In France, it may be ending right now. I just hope it's not too late.

The French government is showing how weak they are right now- and we all know how terrorists love to exploit a nation's weakness.
Has anyone noted that france has nukes - which I hope are better protected than their suburbs. :-(

Wouldn't be all that much of a challenge to just make one. Not like trying to make TATP, or at least a whole safer.

It is a concept that is uniquely American.

Not really. We copied it from both the English and the Swiss. The Swiss still adhere more closely to their 18th century model than we do to ours.

"Do we have large Muslem slums in the US?"

Take a drive through Patterson, NJ or parts of Brooklyn, NY. At the very least, we have large enclaves.

"Do we have large Muslem slums in the US?"

There's a slew of muslims in Detroit, I guess that's slummy enough. Watch for the muslim 'slums' in the West to become the trojan horses of the 'mujahedeen'.
