Jeff Dahmer and Jesse Andersen were killed in a Wisconsin prison bathroom as I recall. The guy that killed them, Christopher Scarver, used a bar from the weight room to bludgeon them. (I had fun telling people that the cops determined it was "Mr. Scarver, in the bathroom, with the Lead Pipe").

Scarver, who thought he was Jesus, was already serving life without parole. For killing Dahmer and Andersen, I heard that the only thing the State could do was eliminate Scarver's snack privileges.

A bit of irony: Steve Kohn, Vang's lead attorney, also represented Christopher Scarver in this case. Maybe Kohn can put the word out that he'll represent anybody who kills Vang, because this case hasn't exactly made Kohn look like a genius, even though he never had a chance to begin with.
