Bush Forcefully Attacks Iraq Critics

President Bush forcefully attacked critics of the war in Iraq on Friday, accusing them of trying to rewrite history and saying they are undercutting American forces on the front lines.

"The stakes in the global war on terror are too high and the national interest is too important for politicians to throw out false charges," the president said in his combative Veterans Day speech.

Defending the march to war, Bush said that foreign intelligence services and Democrats and Republicans alike were convinced at the time that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

"Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and mislead the American people about why we went to war," Bush said.

He said those critics have made those allegations although they know that a Senate investigation "found no evidence" of political pressure to change the intelligence community's assessments related to Saddam's weapons program.

He said they also know that the United Nations passed more than a dozen resolutions citing Saddam's development and possession of weapons of mass destruction.

"More than 100 Democrats in the House and the Senate who had access to the same intelligence voted to support removing Saddam Hussein from power," Bush said.

A day late and a dollar short, but still worthwhile. He needs to give speeches like this every single day. The left has gotten away with waayyy too much demagoguery and I'm tired of it.

The democratic party is the communist party. Identical goals and identical methods.

Totally agree and the stinking GOP in the congress needs to step up to the plate and do the same thing.

I second that motion (and sentiment)... once is good, but not going to cut the BS coming from the RAT party -- he also needs to take the GOP back in hand ASAP.

What he needs to do is read quotes from all of these Leftwit politicians from the 90's, and ask the people... "Do you know who said that? Yes, that's right... Then-President Bill Clinton in 1998."... do that over and over, using their own words.

This is months overdue. I hope it is not too late.

Much good is happening in Iraq. The WH needs to hit that every single day.

I thought it was well done. It basically nailed them on specific grounds for which there is no wiggle room, that is their earlier votes.

Also, drawing the link to troop support was bold.

Calling them out for revising history puts them on the defensive, and sets up automatic lines of future questioning for even a hostile press -- the 'he said - she said' aspect of journalism tends to prevail, if only because it's easy for press dolts who operate like high school tattletales.

Yup he is a president when he speaks the truth. If he won't do it, who will? When he speaks double-talk I feel like my skin is falling off.

The democratic party is the communist party. Identical goals and identical methods. - my wife asked why there are no socialist or communist parties in the US - I told her this exact thing last night.

It was well said ... however, I felt President Bush should have been more forceful in his delivery at critical points in the speech.
