(Shotgun-wielding) Juneau man defends boat while naked (AK)

According to the Associated Press, a Juneau man defended his boat from an intruder before dawn Thursday with a shotgun and little else.

Russell Peterson grabbed his shotgun, sprang out of bed and marched the intruder off the vessel - all while in the nude. Peterson says he saw a man in a black coat standing in his bedroom doorway aboard his boat docked in Aurora Harbor. Peterson says he used his sawed-off shotgun to march the man off his ship.

Peterson then called 911. After explaining the situation, Peterson told the dispatcher he needed to get off the phone so he could get his pants on.

Police say 27-year-old Clay Calabrese was jailed at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on a charge of criminal trespass. Peterson says Calabrese lives on another boat at Aurora.

Greetings from the “naked man” himself. I am russell peterson ~ i must clarify a few things here it seems :) quite fun to find this thread here honestly!
here is the Juneau Empire story with audio from the news reports the following morning.
http://bezerk.org/nakedman
i can assure you all that the “sawed off” was in fact a mossberg model 500 - from the factory short barrel, sawed off would be an expression or description.
anyways, the day after the incident i filed a “stalking protective order” on the wierdo since it was discovered that he found out where i lived by me being perhaps too public with my life on the net. he saw photos of where i lived from my website. sad.
luckily i sleep next to my shotgun, unlucky for him that i also sleep naked - so yes he got both barrels in fact. :)
But the sad point is honestly our Juneau Police Department in thier “selective enforcement” being that the day this freak was released he “approached” me, declaring how i “owed him” 50 days in jail or some nonsense. Having the stalking protective order, i called the police. they asked if he was “threatening me” in any way...i explained that i have the “protective order” & he wasnt supposed to come near me or my home. The JPD told me that unless he was “threatening me” they would do nothing. I said “when you arrested him that night - you found a very large hunting knife in his backpack, amongst the tools he used to PRY OPEN my front door” that i was concerned i “may need to defend myself” - they informed me that i would go to jail.
how about that. They charged him with “criminal trespass” even after finding the big ass hunting knife, some pot, and burgalry tools in his black back pack, wich matched the large black hooded trench coat he was wearing....when i woke up to him “IN” my bedroom.
So i hope this will clarify some of the urban myth & speculation about this story & thread! But please know, after the failed restraining order, selective enforcement of the juneau police department, and harassing nature of this wierdo guy - i honestly have wished at times that i had pulled the trigger & not spared his life.
about 10 years prior to this, which also made the papers here, i owned a printshop which was a wanna be kinda kinkos i guess. Anyways a couple guys came in around midnight one night - one with a pistol & the other with a quite “illegal sawed off” shotgun. The first one with the pistol i literally ran out of the shop with this same “short barrel” shotgun, and ended up standing barrel to barrel with the other one for a few VERY long minutes in the back of my shop where he was holding one of my employees hostage on his knees. Happy to say i talked him down while barrel to barrel, then proceeded to beat him with his own gun...telling him how “now you can brag about how you tried to rob someone & got beat down with your own gun”
so not to just throw that out there - his name was “cory mcdonald” & the other was “Ron Wheat” both of whom got 12 years, and is very much public record. As is the story just told also in the Juneau Empire.
i dont think that i am some bad ass, just a guy who was fortunate enough to own a nice mossberg model 500 & has a mean “boo game” i guess.
again, many times in retrospect i have realized how stupid it was to stand barrel to barrel like that...and wished i had pulled the trigger, but very much glad that i didnt in each case.
in closing: a relavent update to the “intruder” on my boat “Clay Homan Calabrese” - he continued to harass me on & off, both electronically & in real life - but never came on my boat again, for fear i am SURE of being forced to see me naked AGAIN. He is now currently wanted by JPD for “alledgedly” breaking into a single parent mothers home, in the same manner which he broke into mine. The first thing he did upon “leaving state” was to message me electronically bragging about his “departure” perhaps & make a few more threatening remarks. I did what i should do, kept logs, traced the IP & called the ISP and again Juneau Police Department with the information. He now lives in Oregon, boasting they wont extradite him - which was fine with JPD as they told me “do we really want him back?”
So thus is the final chapter of this most enjoyable urban ledgend kinda deal here! :)

what a wonderful story, thank the lord you had your shotgun to protect you! The right to bear arms is a basic right written into the Alaska Constitution for all people. Even convicted felons are allowed to own and carry guns in alaska I know because I was born here, and my brother has a felonies record and is still legal to go hunting with us each year. By alaska law he can own & carry a gun - but federal law prevents him from being approved to buy a gun from a gun store new. but its legal for him to buy from an individual. people need to be able to hunt & eat in remote areas, not to mention GIANT BEAR protection - and the more people carrying guns the less likely people are to break into other peoples houses too!
