Parent Says Restaurant Offers Kid Food, So It Should Cater To Kids
"We were surprised at how many times we would see children really out of control," McCauley said. "And we actually had people leaving the bakery because the children were so out of control."
So, he put a sign on the door at kids' eye-level, asking children of all ages to use their "indoor voices."
"We thought it was just a friendly reminder to people that when they come here, just be considerate of the people around them. We had no idea the kind of controversy that was going to explode out of this," McCauley said.
But some parents who spoke with NBC5's Natalie Martinez took immediate offense to the sign. The angry mothers said there are plenty of places in the Andersonville neighborhood where they can take their kids, even if they're acting out.
"I've e-mailed friends and said, 'Just so you know, this man has a sign up. I know there are lots of other options, and I'd encourage you not to go there,'" parent Kate Bremmer said.
When she spoke with Martinez, Bremmer and her kids were picking out goodies at a Swedish bakery, where all kids are welcome.
"Our custom has been to offer a cookie to every child that comes into the store for as long as I can remember," said Kathy Stanton-Cromwell, the co-owner of the bakery, which is just a few doors down from A Taste of Heaven.
Stanton-Cromwell said the cookie serves as "a good calmer" for kids who are acting up.
Bremmer said A Taste of Heaven "is not a five-star restaurant," so she thinks it should cater to kids, not the other way around.
"They offer ice cream cones and cookies and lots things that kids love, and therefore, I don't think that they should make such an issue of it," Bremmer said.
Other parents enjoying lunch with their kids at A Taste of Heaven were more diplomatic.
"I have mixed feelings about it. It's a little off-putting," one mother said.
Linda Wallace, also a mother who eats at A Taste of Heaven, said she thought McCauley was "sort of brave" for putting up the sign.
"It did cross my mind that he might offend some people," she said.
McCauley said he loves kids, although he has none of his own. He said he has no immediate plans to take the sign down.
Next step: advertise the fact that they are now brat and helicopter mother free. That'd draw a crowd for sure

If you hate your children do not discipline them..
This restaruant is an ideal place for parents to take their kids...it will help parents to teach their children respect for others and that they do not have a right to act like wild animals in public...
If the parents canno't make their children 'mind' in public the restaurant provides the perfect 'authority' for parents to appeal to...
You can't yell and scream or run around wildly...because those are the rules here...if you insist you will be told to leave..

Yes by all means give sweets to a child who is behaving badly. If you want to give hime more energy to reinforce that behavior, that is.
I find that a varying grip just below the ears works better though. By now, usually all I have to do is place my hand on my sons shoulders or neck, and he comes into line. There is no substitute for firm consistent discilpine.
The guy should counter the woman's boycott giving a special treat to every child who behaves and uses their indoor voice.

There was a mother who brought 4-5 of her "acting out" offspring to my local library. I've never seen anything like it. She was palpably angry - I always had the feeling her goal was to literally inflict her children on the world in general. Their behavior was the same at the supermarket.
Reads as though she prefers a Taste of Hell to a Taste of Heaven.

People used to walk up to our table at restaurants when I was a kid an comment on how well behaved my brother and I were. Substitue "board" for "belt" and you'll know why. ;)
My Mom made a habit of pointing out other misbehaving kids and say, "If I ever see you acting like that..." The point was taken.

That's hysterical. My freeper name stems from what all children in my neck of the woods call me - Cruella DeVille. Not that I kill puppies or anything, just scare them into behaving with mere look.
And he's not going to have kids anytime soon, as anyone who has seen the video of this guy can attest. He's about as gay as they come. Not exactly a pro-family kind of guy (I'm sure he whines about "breeders" in private).

There is nothing 'pro-family' about accepting or encouraging out of control behavior and manners from children.

It's not like having a child is a really big, unique accomplishment. Guess what parents, there are billions of them in the world and they're not all "special".
It's bad enough with the continual din and racket of "music" in these places.

I've never had anything like this occur in my presence, but your comment has given me an idea.
If I am ever subject to something of this nature, I'll look the mother square in the eye and tell her that if she doesn't take control of the situation immediately, I'll report her to Child Protective Services and let the State take responsibility for her vermin.
