One thing that happened with the price runup is that now $2 a gallon seems cheap to many people. People get used to the idea of a $50-60 fillup cost pretty quickly and when it drops to $30-40 it seems cheap.

Expect a runup in SUV sales when it gets back down into the $1.50-1.60 range.

That's what the oil companies are counting on.

Oh, no! The oil companies are our FRIENDS. They are champions of capitalism and would never dream of profiteering from natural disasters or peoples' fears.

Or so I'm told by the butterflies that perch on the ward room window sill and whisper to me by starlight ...

I was able to find $2.29 in California the other day. There is some weird inversion going on in the Bay Area. Usually San Francisco has the highest gas prices and it goes down as you go South. Right now I heard it's cheaper in SF than San Jose.

My boss had us to ask if the customer wanted their carpet. vacuumed. Some days we gave away pencils or bubble gum. The road maps were all free. The rest rooms were fair.

IIRC, you could get a case of Falstaff 12oz bottles for $3.12 at the Barksdale AFB Shell station about that time...

Watever happened to Falstaff beer, anyway?

If the "big oil companies" were making such "obscene" profits on high gas prices, why on earth would they be allowing the price to fall? If people were begrudgingly paying close to $3 per gallon, why wouldn't big oil want to keep the price that high just to squeeze the consumer more and rake in even more filthy profits? /sarcasm

Exactly. For people who claim oil companies can control the price of oil, get them to explain 1998-1999 prices.

3. Isn't it interesting that a significant portion of our refinery capacity got destroyed in the hurricanes, and yet our cost of gasoline is decreasing
4. It is also interesting that the price of gasoline just happened to start a sharp downward slide just after the Congressional hearings with all the top oil

I guess it is easier for you to believe that rather than look at our refineries coming back on line and our imports of gasoline decreasing.

Two bad gas will be well over 3 bucks a gallon next summer...again.

Its all a shell game to sucker the rubes. Oh boy,now that gas is under 2 bucks, i can buy a super-mega hummer on steroids that gets 2 miles to the gallon going downhill, with a tailwind and the engine shut off!!!

Don't forget the oil companies are planning to have their way with you all winter via your heating bill...rubes.

2.21 in Victorville & San Diego today

My gut tells me we have a glut of gasoline.
I know we've cut our driving in half since the price went to close to three dollars a gallon and we haven't increased the driving since the prices fell.
The cheapest in Cali until this past week was in Huntington Beach less than two miles from the beach...if you can believe that! LOL Now you can buy gas most anywhere in Cali for 2.29 a gallon. And when did you ever see gas cheaper than diesel like it is now and has been???

Unfortunately the clowns in D.C. have not allowed drilling in ANWAR and/or done anything to increase refinery construction.

The price drop is a set up by the market manipulators. Just before Christmas, they will jack up the price and blame Bush. Sucker punch.

Still can't recall it. Maybe there weren't any Esso's where I lived or my parents didn't go to them.
