"The last Mongolian forces to go to Iraq, led by a grandson of Genghis Khan in 1258, sacked Baghdad and killed an estimated 800,000 people."

And Murtha, Reid, Kerry and communist company are complaining about the 2200 US loses and 18000 mangeled or injured.

Something is wrong with this picture. I call it cowardice and not democratic debate!

The Mongols of that time put a big dent in the Muslim empire. If it hadn't been for that, perhaps Christian Europe would not have prevailed in later times.

A version of the story is told in Christopher Marlowe's Tamburlaine the Great.

For those into Mythological art, here is one of the mythological heros of Mongolia, who is associated with the Kingdom of Shambhala (AKA Shangri-Lah), Gesar of Ling. (This is a photo of a painting done on silk in the early 1800s.)Definitely a horse culture with guys riding around in the sky. Our president couldn't be in much better company! The mares milk drinking ceremony is a blessing and I am very glad W went out and participated ! The Mongolian folk culture also has a great lineage of using the bow, still taught today. Atta Go W!!! Mongolia’s soldiers in Iraq serve within the Polish-led division and their work is confined largely to construction and logistics outside the town of Hilla. The last Mongolian forces to go to Iraq, led by a grandson of Genghis Khan in 1258, sacked Baghdad and killed an estimated 800,000 people.

Hey Islam, I've got bad news and worse news. The bad news is that King Jan Sobieski's guys are back. The worse news is they've got the Mongols with them. ;)
