Does this give you any indication of where their parts come from?

Q: What's the difference between a Harley and a Hoover?
A: On the Hoover, the dirt bag is below the body!

I'm not a biker, but I don't see why you're all ragging on Harleys. About 90 percent of the bikes on the road here in AZ are Harleys or some jap bike trying to look like one.

The Mikuni CV are great carbs and I don't blame H_D for using them. But it does make me laugh that my Ohio made Honda VTX has more American parts than many H-Ds.

You are so right, and the honda is a better bike, that is easier on you to ride and easier on you pocket book.

That Honda VTX is a nice looking bike, but it kinda looks like a Harley

Oil leaks ? As the former owner of three Limeys, (last was a Norton 850) you don't know REAL oil leaks, my man. So then you know why England doesn't have a computer industry... right?
Cuz they can't figure out how to make them leak oil!

Harley's success is built in the fact that people are not very smart. It is an image. You don't buy the bike you buy the image. Harley's are the slowest, heaviest, most outdated, motorcycles in the world, yet are some of the most expensive. People travel in herds. They hold on to an image that a motorcycle that is still designed on 1966 technology is the best bike to have simply because everyone else has one. Half the price will buy you a better, faster, lighter, more nimble Japanese bike that accelerates, brakes, corners and altogether rides better. Harley-Davidson Company are marketing geniuses that rely on stupidity to sell shirts and hats and latte makers and officially endorsed Harley waffle irons instead of embracing the 21st century.

Lots of small minded vitriol. You must be one of those who REALLY NEEDS to believe her when she says size don't matter.
All the protesting only serves to confirm the suspicion.

Harley had to source carbs from overseas because the domestic supplier (Bendix) unilaterally decided to get out of the motorcycle carb business. This started a long time ago (1970s I think).

I knew there was a reason I got rid of that stock a few months back.

I agree with most of that, but have you checked out the V-Rod and the Buell bikes? I don't think they're heavy or slow. And, apparently the image works.
