Your post isn't understandable. What do coconuts have to do with anything previously discussed in this thread?

"...I'm betting you don't last out the day on FR..."

Your prediction came true. He couldn't keep his cool as a troll and blew his cover. He started his position in the thread as just a "sacrifice rights in the name of temporary security" adherent. Good riddance I say!

Hi jjtwo-

You likely meant for your comments to be penned to banned FReeper "jiminwimberley" earlier, but I catch your meaning. Sacrificing OUR rights isn't going to help decent people and responsible governments get a handle on terrorists and terrorism anytime sooner.

Israel is also about the size of New Jersey and deals with far fewer flights per day. Trying to scale what El Al Airlines does in their tiny market to the entire airline industry operating in the United States would be a formidable task.

I flew from Indy to San Diego with a layover each way, and didn't realize that my 4" folding knife was in my carry-on until I got back home. Sad for TSA, and very glad for me that I wasn't "caught".

I flew quite a bit and just got sick of the nitpicky prohibitions of things that I store in a makeup bag. So I put the bag in my carry-on as usual, and no security person or device seemed to notice or care. Made me wonder (well not really) how effective the system actually was. Silly "amnesty" boxes full of nail clippers and tweezers. Those things should be stuffed with truly hazardous items, i.e. Muslims.

Hi jjtwo-

If each and every airline passenger (that's hundreds of thousands per day...) had to submit to El Al style interviews, the industry would go down the tubes as people turned to driving themselves, private jets, trains, buses, or videoconferencing.

Israel can have that level of detail precisely because they are small. Similarly, if the state of Iowa wanted to enhance security for all intra-state flights, it wouldn't be that difficult because not too many would be affected. The "microscope technique" doesn't scale well when one is talking about thousands upon thousands of impatient customers waiting to get to their destinations. People need to arrive ninety minutes to two hours early as it is, could you imagine doubling that time to allow for all the screening?
