Teens Watched As Students Had Sex In School

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Two Lincoln teenagers have been ticketed for having sex in a high school hallway during the lunch hour while at least a dozen students watched, according to Lincoln police.

School officials said the incident happened over the lunch hour Wednesday at Lincoln Southeast. A female 17-year-old and a male 19-year-old apparently snuck past a gate to get into a restricted hallway near the Prasch Activity Center. Lincoln police said at least a dozen students watched through the gate.

A school administrator found the couple and called a school resource officer.

"I don't want the message to families (to be that) this is happening indiscriminately all over the halls," said Becky Wild, with Lincoln Public Schools.

Wild said she remembers only one other incident like this in the last 10 years. She said LPS takes it very seriously, and administrators are asking themselves some tough questions.

"Are there some areas in our schools that are not as visible to the adults that supervise? We need to figure out how we cover those. Do we need to be talking with students about appropriate behavior?" Wild said.

Word of the incident doesn't sit well with some students.

"It's inappropriate," said one student. "It is. First of all, they don't need to be doing that in front of other people."

Students told KETV NewsWatch 7 that they believe sex in the hallways is rare, but sexual activity in schools happens more than adults think.

"If a kid thinks they can do that and it's going to make them popular, that's the level people go to nowadays," said student Danielle Thompson.

"I honestly think it could happen, and it probably does happen at their schools. People just don't know about it," said student Tomika Hopkins-Sanders.

LPS said students involved in sexual activity at school could face disciplinary action, counseling, suspension or even expulsion.

School officials will look at changes that can be made to prevent this kind of incident, but admitted that it's tough to keep an eye on every student at every moment of the day.

There was alot of sex going on in the 70s, but not in full view of the rest of the world at school. THAT is the difference. susie

I agree that it is a difference, but that is not the point the poster I was replying to was making. He/she was trying to make the point that the 70s were an innocent time where women only consented to sex if the man could convince her that his love would last a lifetime. Check the post that I replied to..

The 70s were very much a sexually carefree time. To think of it as a time of morality purity is just "good ol' days" syndrome.

Agreed, but the odds are a lot lower though. The main benefit is that you avoid the chance of pregnancy.

I remember taking worms to school in Biology class (10th grade I think) to study copulation.

Hell, today, you just watch other kids get it on.

Having graduated from HS in the middle of the 70s, and having taught at a HS in the late 90s/early 00s, I gotta say, the attitude is VASTLY different. While the 70s were not a terribly innocent time by 1950s standards, they were NOT very similar to today. Most of the girls I knew who were sexually active tended to do it with a boyfriend who they were dating. They tended to at least PLAN to marry the guy. (I can't attest to what the guys thought). The small handfull who slept around were really considered bad girls (sluts) by many.
That does not appear to be the case today.
And, for the record, I don't think there has ever been a time of moral purity. Just a time when kids were more afraid of the consequences, and more supervised.

There was sex going on when I was in school, but I don't recall kids doing it in the hallway, miming porno flicks on a dare while other kids watched. Nope, don't recall that at all.

The high school here in Wilkes-Barre, PA (Coughlin High School) made the national news recently (this past year I believe) when two students were caught having sex in the auditorium. I don't believe either one was expelled, but I think they both got suspensions.

I don't recall this kind of stuff when I was in school.

A female performed oral on a male in my class when I was in first grade. That was 1985. The difference? No internet back then.

MEatloaf sang about times that were long gone. Rocky Horror demonstrated aptly that the times had changed.

In Cambridge MA they had a girl doing that in the back stairway with some of the boys. She was in the 5th grade. They tried to keep it quiet because she was part of a special program. to bring children to that school.

The boy was 19 and the girl was a minor. Unless they are cousins up in the hills somewhere, isn't that officially a rape?

"If this character is in his Senior year, he is at most 1 year behind."

No wonder he's the oldest student in high school.

He sounds like such a moron for having sex in the open, that I wouldn't be surprised to learn he was flunked at least once.

Wonder if he'll even pass a literacy test.

What I'm hearing about today is "serial monogamy." People will hook up for a while, have sex -- even get married. Then they move on to someone else.

Shows how much the very concept of "relationships" has been devalued.

I agree, but that was more due to the fact that women tended to get married right out of high school. A girl couldn't afford to be known as sleeping around in high school because she had to have a guy lined up to marry when it ended.

As women started going to college in higher and higher numbers, that no longer became a concern. Most women don't want to marry until their mid to late 20s so what happens in high school or college is no concern. Also, women who attend college tended to gravitate to more urban areas after graduation so their reputations in their small town high school are irrelevant and relatively unimportant since they're not going to live there anyway.

Of course, women in smaller towns that do not go off to college have to make sure that they at least seem sexually pure. This is probably why people have the impression that small towns are still places of virtue - the women really don't have any choice if they want to be able to get a husband right out of high school.

Well yeah, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. In the past, women were dependent on the man they married. If he ended up being a bad guy, the woman was screwed.

Now, women are able to make it on their own and they enter relationship for emotional reasons rather than just financial ones.

As has been covered many times in the thread, it is not statutory rape. The age on consent in Nebraska (like most states) is 17. Also, most states do not consider it statutory rape if the age difference is not more than 3 years.

17 is most likely the age of consent. even if it wasn't the difference between them isn;t large enough. but it depends on the state itself.
