Ford to advertise Jaguar, Land Rover in gay publications

DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday said it will run advertisements in gay publications, reversing a decision last week to pull all advertising of its Jaguar and Land Rover luxury brands from that sector.

In a letter to some gay, lesbian and human rights groups, Ford said it has decided to run corporate ads for all its eight brands, including its Jaguar and Land Rover luxury brands, in the targeted publications.

"It is my hope that this will remove any ambiguity about Ford's desire to advertise to all important audiences and put this particular issue behind us," Joe Laymon, Ford's group vice president for corporate human resources, wrote in the letter, which was posted on Ford's web site.

well, I will admit to a free trail membership at BJ's wholesale club.. Haven't decided yet to make it pemanent. But it would only be for purchase of a few select items. So If they want to make me a member of a special interest group, then I will be the only one it in unless others buy only bulk toilet paper, olives and whitefish salad. I won;t buy much more there because I can get better prices elsewhere. Oh, and milk at $1.25 gallon - can't beat that. It is obviously a loss leader.

My local CVS always asks for my membership card and when I tell them I forgot mine the clerk always picks up a generic card and scans it for me, giving me the discounts without any data from me. Seems fairly goofy to me, but if that's the way they want to do business, far be it from me to challenge it.

If they are running the ads in those publications because it will help them sell cars, then more power to them and the stockholders. If they are running them simply to pacify the gay community, the stockholders ought to be really pissed off.

So it couldn't serve both purposes? If they do it to "pacify the gay community" it's a moral thought crime and wouldn't possibly help sales?

"if the audience is 3-5%, lets say, why would you market to them?"

Because they tend to have higher levels of disposable income than average--i.e., they are more likely to afford a Jaguar or a Land Rover than most people.

Add Target to that list and that is a good start

BTW Nissan is a great company that does not suport the homo agenda.

Why do always here about the buying power of homos? I would think the buying power of Christians and/or conservatives would make their buying power look like nothing.

Chrisians make up 90% of the buying public - regardless of how you look at the statistics Conservatives and Christians tower over the homos in buying power.

We need to start pushing the agenda with out buying decisions - when you buy a product you vote for either the liberal or conservative agenda.

Don't want to slander anyone, but isn't the Ford Foundation overly friendly to homosexual groups?

Yep.

This sucks. I just bought a 2005 LR3 and I have a 1999 Series II in the garage. There is no better off road vehicle, period... so I can only guess how they'll be marketed now. Imagine the visual presentation in the ads...

... taking the boy scouts camping...

... meet at the truck-stop, but go off road to a secluded place in the bushes with your "catch"...

... loading flowers for the flower shop in the large cargo area ...

... rubber floor mats ...

I'm calling Ford today. General inquiries: 1-800-FIND 4WD
Owner inquiries: 1-800-637-6837

But Nissan is French-owned. So if you purchase a Nissan, you are putting money into the French Gov't Coffers.

BUT WAIT! Let's lay off the Land Rover and Jag owners... ALL FORD vehicles are for HOMOS!

"As a result, we have decided to run corporate ads in these targeted publications that will include not only our Jaguar/Land Rover but all eight of Ford's vehicle brands."

Especially after movies like Brokeback Mountain, they'll start to advertise Ford pickups to all the gay cowboys out there.
