Soldiers say media miss Iraq story

Soldiers say media miss Iraq story 'So much of what happens here never makes the nightly news.' By Anderson Cooper CNN

"....Every soldier I talked to today said the media hasn't done a good job of telling the full story from Iraq. It's a complaint I've heard before, and certainly understand. I do think television tends to focus on the bombs and the bullets, the most dramatic headlines. So much of what happens here never makes the nightly news.

When today's patrol ended, one of the soldiers said to me, "Sorry it wasn't more exciting for you." I told him I wasn't looking for excitement, and in fact, I was glad the day unfolded as it did.

It reminded me that life in Iraq is never what you expect it to be. The situation here is far more complex and the fight far more nuanced than it is often portrayed.

I'm surprised they didn't put a big black X on it.

To be fair, post the 'max' view of the NYT stock. Long term they are not so bad.

I believe the real reason is, that after more than a year of catering to the Dems talking points, they are starting to realize that we not only might win, we ARE WINNING.

And that not onl;y are we winning, returning troops will soon be coming home asking how it is that they won, yet the MSM says they lost.

Even they cannot pull off that cognative disconnect.

And they are starting to get spooked.

Good.

Andersen Cooper said a few weeks ago "Every soldier that I spoke to over in Iraq said that training of the Iraqi troops was not going well at all". "EVERY SOLDIER"??? How many did he talk to??? So much BS. He is not a reporter at all but goes with the flow. A few weeks ago the herd was anti Bush and now that he is fighting back they want to be on that bandwagon. What do you wanna bet the next polls look better than the last??? They already know it!!!

Words out. They have been exposed. As reluctant as they may be, some of them will start to ease up a bit.

I am willing to grant they planned to use statements against the Democrats similiar to 2002. What I cannot grant is that the administration included in its plans the Warner resolution and bottom falling out of its base, in large part due to Miers on that last. Nor did they calculate the ambush the MSM leveled with Katrina, how could they, it was a natural event. IMO, this threw whatever strategery they had up their sleeves into chaos and the President seemed to alude to this in the interview with Brit when he stated they planned to address the Democrats and then Katrina hit.

They've now found their footing.

So, I agree with your theory in essence they planned to trap the Dems, but the timing and some events that occured the last few months offset those plans forcing them to regroup and recalculate. They were off their game for awhile, now it's back on.

I definitely agree with you that the MSM, at least, recognizes finally we're winning and they still want to retain some credibility. It's not all that different from january when they ran stories of, "What if Bush was right?"

Democrats being Democrats have chosen suicide missions instead of taking the MSM's cue to ease up on the white flag speak.

I'd wager you are correct about the MSM polls. When he's doing badly, we had one every day. I've seen one this week. Whether the rest are better, I don't know, but I'm confidant it's not horrible or they would have released it by now. Instead they are polling a few extra days to try to affect the results negatively, they'd been known to do it before.

You have it exactly,  the Dems seem to be on a suicide mission in an attempt to remain relevant with their uber-left base.  That is thier curse as the RNC will hang it around their necks like an albatross.

Some get it, Lieberman for instance, and see the train wreck coming.  Others, Dean for instance, life in an alternate reality where they are just one special prosecutor away from ultimate victory over the Evil Bush Administration®.

What happens when the train wreck happens?

From another article;

The Iraqi elections are coming in December. This is an unmitigated disaster for the Dems who need to find a solution for this entire issue of success. The “insurgency” is finding it more and more difficult to get recruits, their “Leaders” being denounced by both the “Arab Street” and their own families. The Tipping Point in Iraq is rapidly approaching and the Democrat Party knows it.

As I see it, they have only 4 choices.

1. Continue to find ways to present the war and election in Iraq as a failure, denouncing the most democratic government in the Arab World and its members as lackeys to the Americans thus playing into the hands of the Islamofascists. Or in other words, continue their existing strategy.

2. Declare that it really wasn’t a big deal after all and that if given time, it would have all worked out anyway. That this was tried and failed will not make any difference to them. It has however proven to have little impact with the electorate; Sept 11 is still too fresh in the Publics mind to pull this one off convincingly except for those in the fringes.

3. Jump on the bandwagon and walk arm in arm with Bush as he triumphantly walks into a future Middle East where Democracy has replaced Despotism, Terrorists are reviled and Islamofascism is on the run.

4. Take credit for it.

End excerpt

This is my real fear, that the MSM will yet AGAIN carry the Dems water and somehow help them take credit for victory.

And try they will, if they don't, they risk becoming marginalized, or perhaps worse, a split party.

Either way, it works for me.

Cheers,

knews hound
