The last poll I saw on Santorum (not Rasmussen they talked about the other day, Quinnipiac?) he was polling something like 20 pts behind Casey, but when asked if they thought he had done a good job, something like 67% answered yes! The problem with the conservative Democrats who have voted twice for Santorum is they "love" Casey and these are people from his area of the state.

This chart, if accurate, is a perfect reflection as to why Senators are almost always re-elected.

Norm and him were tied earlier in the year...I think the reason is the Dems made him DISSAPEAR because all he was to them was a vote to cancel Norm...runaway Mark doesn't even show up on the LOCAL news!

"What is going on with Conrad Burns?"

Remember the four-year hatchet job that our Montana version of the MSM did on Judy Martz? (She's our ex-governor, who was tried and found guilty in the newspapers of being a Republican.)

Conrad has been getting the same treatment from the very same people, to the cheers and applause of Montana Democrats.

I'd take that poll with a TON of salt, if only because those very same media outlets have only lately come to the realization that their circulation numbers have gone in the toilet even faster than the NYT or LA Slime. (The Billings paper is printing throwaway copies once or twice a month to try for new subscribers, but....well, I DID call 'em throwaways, didn't I?)

My worm's eye view of things says that Baucus is campaigning harder than anybody else in the state right now, and he would sooner have hot pokers in his eyes as be publicly associated with the Dean/Kerry/Reid axis.

Too damn many current and ex-military families around here for a really fashionable Democrat to feel comfortable.

Part of what drives these numbers is memory. The highly contested DeMint election is in more people's minds than Grahams short walk years before it.

Yeah... all Maine residents who work for the state of Maine, maybe.

I'm stuck with Durbin too. Unfortunately, as a resident of Cook County, I see no way he'll get voted out in IL. My district booted Crane for a turncoat in 2004. Got any reasons to give me hope?

I guarantee it was not national republans. Snowe and Collins are universally loathed by republican activists outside of maine and not too beloved by the non country club set here in Maine either.

I have NO idea why those two would have the top ratings...jeez louise, the only reason I know who they are is because I am a Senate watcher..

They both look, dress, act like spinsters that just came from a church picnic.

Boxer just got reelected with more votes than anyone in 2004 except Bush & Kerry and beat both vote totals in CA. She's utterly certifiable extreme left but was able to ride the anti-Bush coat-tails and faced a non-existent opponent. We might do better in 2010, since it's an off year election. But I won't hold my breath. She'll be our Robert Byrd.

What can you say when 210,000 Boxer voters supported Bush over Kerry?

Candidate Party Votes Percent
John F. Kerry Democratic 6,737,355 54.4
George W. Bush Republican 5,501,496 44.4
Barbara Boxer Democratic 6,947,021 57.8
Bill Jones Republican 4,548,931 37.8

Feinstein will be reelected by aclamation.

I'm in the same district as you, and I think Bean's going to get taken out next year.

Since she's acted fairly moderate in Congress she's alienated the lefty and labor vote big time, and they'll sit on their hands.

The 8th went 58% for Bush in 2004, Crane should have bowed out gracefully and let the next generation of Republican take the reins.

I hope you're right about Bean. Unfortunately, there's not much hope Durbin will get booted.

If his approval rating stays under 50% and we have a decent challenger, I'd say we have a shot.

Especially if the 2008 presidential nominee has coattails.

"People in Dem and Rhino states aren't paying attention to what's going on."

Well of course!
How else could you explain the people they elect?

Unless you live in Tom Coburn's state you're probably not real satisfied with your senator.

Whats surprises me is that Tom did so well with Blacks and in the eastern part of the State.
